Tom Holland has quickly become one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood. This year alone the actor is set to take on lead roles in Spider-Man 3Unchartedand Cherry.

While all three of these are highly anticipated by very different groups, Spider-Man 3 is by far the most discussed of the bunch. The last installment left moviegoers on a mind-blowing cliffhanger as the hero's identity was exposed to the world. Comments from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige only increased anticipation as the producer confirmed the series will tie directly into both WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

With the announcements of several returning villains from classic Spider-Man movies under other lead actors, hopes are high this could be the long-awaited live-action team-up of Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire.

All signs are pointing to a huge arsenal of past actors making a return, possibly including the past Spider-Men themselves. Naturally, with so many acting contracts at play and a global pandemic ongoing, the state of the movie seems to be somewhat in flux, as the film's star recently commented on.

TOM HOLLAND TALKS SPIDER-MAN 3 DETAILS

In an interview with Collider, Spider-Man 3 star Tom Holland discussed the production process of the wall-crawler's latest film including detailing the process of “figuring it out as we go,” something the actor claims are common for these larger movies:

“Well, unfortunately I had to read it in sections because there is an element of figuring it out as we go on this one, as there is with most of these big movies, but it is fantastic.”

The British star went on to re-emphasize the particularly exciting nature of the film as he described it as the “most ambitious standalone superhero film” he's been involved with, noting the “funny” and “emotional” nature of the film:

“It’s easily the most ambitious standalone superhero film I’ve ever been a part of. It’s incredibly exciting, it’s funny, it’s emotional, it’s everything that you’d want in a superhero film. I’m loving it. I mean I’ve loved all of them, but I’ve never had as much fun as I have on this one.”

The whole group behind the film has clearly formed a close “family” bond as they're having a “great time...making something very special:"

“Being with Jacob [Batalon] and Zendaya again, being with Jon Watts again, with Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige and all those guys, it’s just like a family. We’re having a great time and we’re really, really making something very special.”

TO SPIDER-VERSE OR NOT TO SPIDER-VERSE

Spider-Man 3 is arguably a film just as shrouded in mystery as many of the MCU's large-scale team-up movies. Speculation has been rife now that past Spider-Man actors could be set to return to their roles in this film as it seemingly explores the multiverse, and these quotes may add further fuel to that fire.

While the exact meaning of Holland's comment on “figuring it out as we go” is uncertain, it's possible the actor may be hinting towards the ongoing contract negotiations that could substantially change the film.

Recent reports have suggested that despite the confirmed return of much of his classic rogue's gallery of villains, original Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire is yet to officially sign-on to return in the film with The Amazing Spider-Man lead Andrew Garfield's involvement supposedly more secure.

Even with a company with the near-unlimited resources of Marvel Studios, these deals occasionally fall just out of reach due to financial disputes or scheduling conflicts. This means the studio sometimes has to be prepared to adapt as things come. Even as the situation appears to calm slightly, the global pandemic continues to risk further delays to other films and series whose storylines may rely on the plot of this film.

With release still set for this holiday, fans will likely get a closer look at Spider-Man 3 — including an official title — in the very near future.
