Warner Bros. is currently riding the success of Zack Snyder's Justice League, although the studio is firmly set to continue working on its canon story within the DC Extended Universe. This will include multiple sequels coming into play like Jason Momoa's Aquaman 2 in 2022 and Zachary Levi's Shazam!: Fury of the Gods in 2023.

In terms of the Shazam! sequel, the team behind the movie has already been teasing some epic action set to arrive as Billy Batson learns how to utilize his god-like alter ego's powers more effectively. Levi will also be joined by some elite talent such as Rachel Zeigler and longtime DC fan Sinbad in undisclosed roles.

That cast gains a new member thanks to the latest news blast. This time, not only is the character confirmed, but the role will be filled by one of the industry's biggest names.

SHAZAM SEQUEL GOING FOR THE BIG GUNS

The Wrap is reporting that Hollywood legend Helen Mirren has joined the cast of the Zachary Levi-starring Shazam!: Fury of the Gods. The Academy Award winner will be playing the movie's main villain in the role of Hespera, a daughter of Atlas.

Following the announcement, the movie's director David F. Sandberg shared his own reaction to the news, simply expressing that his "awesome cast (is) getting awesomer." The full tweet can be seen below:

WARNER BROS PULLING OUT ALL THE STOPS

Talk about a power move for the major comic book movie mogul!

Helen Mirren's resume speaks for itself with dozens of awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2007's The Queen among three other Oscar nominations. The veteran of over 50 years has taken to joining action blockbusters since the turn of the century like National Treasure: Book of Secrets and the Fast & Furious series.

Mirren's role is still a bit of a mystery at this point, although Hespera is described as a daughter of the classic DC character Atlas. With a clear connection to the powers that Billy Batson's alter-ego uses in battle, it will be exciting to find out what kind of firepower both Atlas and Mirren's villain bring to the table.
