Warner Bros. is ramping up production on numerous projects set to release within the DC Extended Universe over the next two years, one of them being 2023's Shazam!: Fury of the Gods. The anticipated sequel is in the early stages of production with plot details still being kept under wraps, nonetheless Zachary Levi has a team of acting legends as his supporting cast.
Two of the movie's villains will be played by action star Lucy Liu and Oscar-winner Helen Mirren, who will be up against Levi, Asher Angel's Billy Batson, and his extended adopted family. This team of brothers and sisters will also be in line to expand on their own powers after teaming up with Billy for the final battle of their original story, including updated suits for their adult forms.
The latest update for the sequel not only confirms this same update for the leading hero but confirms that cameras are now rolling.
PRODUCTION UPDATE FOR SHAZAM SEQUEL
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg took to Instagram to post a picture of a camera from the set with a red lightning emblem adorned on the side, along with the one-word caption: "Shazamcam."
Sandberg also responded to two comments asking about details for production.
One comment revealed that the team has "been filming [for] a few days," while another confirmed that Zachary Levi's lead character will be receiving an updated superhero suit for the sequel.
BIGGER AND BETTER FOR SHAZAM'S NEXT OUTING
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods is still over two years from debuting in theaters, but it's exciting nonetheless to know that cameras are rolling for David F. Sandberg's second DCEU outing. Zachary Levi and the rest of the cast have plenty of material to shoot before an extensive post-production run, and fans are looking forward to seeing how this film takes the franchise to new levels.
On the costuming front, Sandberg gives just the slightest tease of what's coming with Zachary Levi's new costume that he will don. While it likely won't make major changes to how Shazam has looked in the comics or in his first movie, all eyes will be on the central hero when he says the magic word that transforms him into a superhero once again.
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods is now filming and will release in theaters on June 2, 2023.
