The Marvel Cinematic Universe is introducing new heroes in Phase 4, and one of them is Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel. The young hero is set to star in her own Disney+ series under the same name, and the character will be portrayed by newcomer Iman Vellani. Alongside Vellani, Ms. Marvel features an impressive cast that includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Yasmeen Fletcher, Farhan Akhtar, Rish Shah, and Zenobia Shroff.
Ms. Marvel follows the origin story of Kamala as she transitions into a full-fledged hero. The character has been confirmed to be a 16-year-old student in Jersey City, and she is an avid fan of MCU's superheroes. Among Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Kamala strongly admires Brie Larson's Captain Marvel.
Ms. Marvel wrapped filming in May 2021, as evidenced by wrap gifts on social media. The show's cast and crew filmed in several locations, such as Atlanta, New Jersey, and Thailand.
Despite wrapping up early, several reports emerged that the series is expected to undergo significant reshoots in Atlanta. Now, a new batch of set photos confirmed the cast and crew's return to filming.
Ms. Marvel Undergoing Reshoots
Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy confirmed via Instagram that the Disney+ series is undergoing reshoots in Atlanta, Georgia.
Chinoy first shared an image of the show's crew setting up infrastructure that will be used for filming:
The Marvel director also posted an image of the show's director's chair that led to the confirmation that these reshoots are for Ms. Marvel:
When Will Ms. Marvel Arrive on Disney+?
Reshoots have been a common staple for Marvel projects, meaning fans shouldn't be worried if this production phase happens. The latest confirmation from Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy should serve as a hint that the series could be improving certain aspects of its narrative to flow smoothly.
Eternals director Chloé Zhao previously shared that reshoots are actually "a blessing" for Marvel directors since it allows the filmmakers to see "things that [they] didn't get" the first time around. The same could be true for Ms. Marvel's directors.
Additional photography could serve as an advantage for Ms. Marvel's filmmakers since it opens up many opportunities to polish dialogue, action sequences, and story arcs for certain characters.
Official merchandise for Ms. Marvel confirmed that Kamala would showcase a new set of powers in the Disney+ series, thus leading to online debate among Marvel diehards. Instead of featuring elasticity, the character's powers appear to closely resemble Green Lantern-inspired constructs.
There's a chance that these reshoots will address the significant power change, either through dialogue or improving its CGI effects.
Additional photography for Ms. Marvel could also be used to add more characters into the mix. The reshoots could allow Carol Danvers or Monica Rambeau to show up in the series' post-credits scene, setting up Kamala's role in The Marvels.
Ms. Marvel has been confirmed to premiere on Disney+ in summer 2022.
