The Marvel Cinematic Universe is mere weeks away from beginning its new slate of projects set for release on Disney+, many of which are deep into the production process right now. January 15, 2021 will hold the debut for WandaVision, and there are two other shows nearing completion: Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Most of the details concerning The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are still being kept under wraps for the time being, and there isn't even a confirmed release date yet for when the series will air on Disney+. The show is primarily set to follow Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson as he takes on the mantle of Captain America, and he will team up once again with Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes as they take on a new set of challenges all over the world.
One of the duo's main targets will be Daniel Brühl's Helmut Zemo, who is set to return in this show after being taken into custody at the end of Captain America: Civil War, although it's unclear if he will be the big bad of Season 1. News has just arrived via a recent merchandise listing that may give fans some indication of who could take on another villainous role for the Disney+ series.
Recent listings on Zazzle is showcasing new merchandise associated with Marvel Studios' The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+, including two images with the Flag-Smasher mask, logo, and hand print. There are no images of an actor associated with the Flag Smashers, and it seems as though the "villain" may be portrayed as a group instead of one person.
Both images can be seen below:
A new batch of concept art for 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' was officially revealed.
Malcolm Spellman said that the writers of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' discussed incorporating Sam Wilson's comic ability to communicate with birds, but there wasn't "a way to do that right" in the series.
Concept art of Bucky's White Wolf attire from 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' was officially revealed.
WHAT THIS MEANS
This merch confirms rumors that came from set videos that leaked in October, which teased that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would be adopting the villainous Flag Smasher into the MCU. In the comics, Flag Smasher joined the ULTIMATUM organization, whose extreme views and rhetoric lined up most closely with his own, but this listing seems to indicate that the Flag Smashers will be realized as their own group that will go up against Sam and Bucky.
Flag Smasher's primary opponent in the comics was Captain America, which makes sense for this series considering that Sam Wilson will be taking over the hero mantle after Steve Rogers' retirement in Avengers: Endgame. It will be interesting to find out if Karl Morgenthau himself will be a part of this series, as well as who potentially plays the role and just how expansive this villain group will turn out to be.
The introduction of the Flag Smashers could also be what leads to Baron Zemo teaming up with Sam and Bucky, which was indicated in another batch of set photos released in October. The Flag Smashers seem to have the potential to cause some serious trouble all over the world, and considering how cemented the original villain is in national pride, it could be the perfect first test for Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as they continue Steve Rogers' legacy into a new era.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has completed filming and is set to release on Disney+ sometime in 2021.
