Fans know very well by now that in the closing moments of Avengers: Endgame, an elderly Steve Rogers passed on the mantle of Captain America to his stalwart friend, Sam Wilson. While doing so, he also presented Sam with a newly constructed shield. After all, the original shield had been heavily damaged during the battle with Thanos.
Eagle-eyed viewers surely noticed that this new shield had subtle variations in its detailing whilst still maintaining its instantly recognizable, red-white-and-blue design.
The plot thread of Sam becoming the new Cap is expected to play into the plot of T he Falcon and the Winter Soldier in a big way. And while the show has unfortunately been delayed until 2021 due to the pandemic, the very first piece of merchandise for the show has just been officially unveiled.
WHAT THIS MEANS
Much like the recent Stormbreaker replica from Hasbro , this item is in 1:1 scale, which means it's a life-size to the version seen in the MCU. It measures in at 24 inches/60 centimeters in diameter. It also features adjustable arm straps.
This isn't the first shield that Hasbro has released either. In the past few years, they've done the original Steve Rogers version, which was available in both metal and plastic renditions, and a more comic book-styled shield as well.
It's also somewhat possible that Hasbro will choose to release a metal version of this shield as well, but it would come at a much higher price point. It's worth nothing that the metal Steve Rogers shield was also a special, limited edition item.
Is this just the beginning of merch trickling out for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ? At a certain point, fans will be hit with a deluge of toys, action figures and other merchandise for the hotly anticipated series. It's really only a matter of time.
