As previously rumored and later confirmed at Disney's Investor Day presentation, Secret Invasion will feature Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Ben Mendehlson's Talos, who will both be faced with a sect of Skrulls who have infiltrated every level of life on Earth.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that this series will “tap[ping] into the paranoia elements of the Secret Invasion comic series.”
It's also been confirmed that Secret Invasion, alongside Armor Wars, will release next year in 2022, but it's still uncertain when filming for either will begin. Casting grids for the series apparently leaked, pointing to a 40 to 50-year-old woman being sought to act alongside Jackson, a young female supporting character, and a 50 to 60-year-old male for the main villain of the show, the latter of which may have just been cast...
A VILLAIN FOR FURY AND TALOS
According to Deadline, Kingsley Ben-Adir has been cast opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn in Marvel Studio's upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion.
While not confirmed, sources close to Deadline said that Ben-Adir will be the lead villain of the show.
KREE OR SKRULL?
It'll be curious to find out if Kingsley Ben-Adir does end up being the primary villain in Secret Invasion and whether he'll be playing a Skrull or Kree. It really could go either way, with the Kree being the primary villains in Captain Marvel and the Skrulls being more or less victims in that film. Additionally, as fans noted in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Talos, disguised as Nick Fury, spoke about Kree sleeper cells.
However, considering Marvel Studios has already pulled the rug regarding the Skrulls being bad guys, it's doubtful that they'd do it again. Feige specified in an interview shortly after Captain Marvel that Skrulls aren't all good, just like people aren't all good.
As for who Ben-Adir may be playing? One obvious candidate is Kl'rt, who is a very devoted soldier to the Skrull Empire who became the first Super Skrull in the comics. What made him different from the standard Skrull is that not only could he replicate the appearance of others, but their abilities, too.
So, it'd be interesting to see Ben-Adir replicating the powers of other Marvel heroes in the MCU like Thor or Hulk.
Secret Invasion is set to hit Disney+ sometime in 2022.
