Marvel Studios is about to kick-start its 2022 theatrical run with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, arriving in theaters in early May. The film features Marvel's master magician alongside Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, this sequel has no limits to how far it can go with expanding the MCU's story. Much of this will come by featuring some of the franchise's strongest and most powerful characters to date.
Following his efforts in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Strange looks to be pushing his sorcery skills past any limits previously thought to be in place. Early plot descriptions have hinted that the sorcerer will explore just how far he can go with that power, leading to the Multiverse being opened for the first time and bringing in characters from all across Marvel's big-screen history.
With Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff at the center of the action, Marvel will get to focus on two immensely powerful heroes, both in discussions for the title of "most powerful in the MCU." As it turns out, according to a recent interview, the time to officially give them that title may officially be here with this film.
Who Are Marvel's Strongest Characters?
In the Spring 2022 issue of Disney's D23 magazine obtained by The Direct, Marvel Studios producer Richie Palmer confirmed that Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch are two of the strongest characters in the MCU.
Calling the movie something "exciting" with their appearances, he confirmed that the magic duo are "two of the most - if not the most - powerful beings" in Marvel Studios' catalog:
“It’s really exciting for that very reason. They’re arguably two of the most - if not the most - powerful beings in the MCU. It was only a matter of time before we got them together, and we do it in a pretty fun, unique way."
Strange and Maximoff - Two of Marvel's Best
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has no shortage of powerful heroes across its 14-year legacy, from the likes of Chris Hemsworth's Thor to Brie Larson's Captain Marvel. These heroes, in addition to villains like Infinity Ultron, are in close contention with Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch at the top of the MCU power scale.
Known as one of the most powerful sorcerers in the universe, Strange's magical abilities are rivaled by few in the Multiverse, particularly with the way fans saw him fight beings like Thanos and Dormammu. Wanda is also putting herself into a league of her own, having made a completely new Hex reality in WandaVision even before gaining possession of the Darkhold and teasing just how strong and powerful she can be.
With Strange and Wanda both taking on their sixth MCU projects, this could be the perfect moment to show both of them leveling up to their full powers. They're absolutely going to need it to tackle an impending Multiversal threat that's coming at them full force, even with all the help at their sides.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will debut in theaters on May 6, 2022.
