Now that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is already halfway through its release on Disney+, Marvel has started to turn its promotional efforts to the next project on the docket, Loki .
The third Disney+ series from Marvel Studios is set to premiere in June, but with the show's second trailer being released today, fans are already pouring over the new material in search of Easter eggs and clues as to what the series has in store for viewers.
So far, Marvel's Disney+ series' haven't had particularly close ties with each other; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier takes place months after WandaVision and follows completely different characters and storylines within the MCU.
It doesn't appear that Loki will have any strong connections with either of these two series, but a small detail in the new trailer indicates it could tie in with another upcoming project.
SMALL LOOK AT A SKRULL
In a shot seen a few seconds into the newest Loki trailer, with a TVA guard escorting Loki into a room, a Skrull can briefly be seen on the right side of the screen.
The shape of the being's head, nose, chin, and ears match up with those of the Skrulls seen in past MCU projects. However, it is unclear if the Skrull in the trailer - who appears to be wearing a tracksuit - is one that has already appeared in the franchise, such as Talos, or one that hasn't appeared yet.
IS THE MCU SETTING THINGS UP FOR SECRET INVASION?
So far, Skrulls have been seen in Captain Marvel , Spider-Man: Far From Home , and WandaVision . It has also been announced that a Secret Invasion series is coming to Disney+. The Skrulls are key to that storyline in the comics, as it focuses on their ability to alter their appearance to look like other beings, and Ben Mendelsohn's Talos is confirmed to be a main character in the series.
With the presence of at least one Skrull in Loki , it's possible the series is going to play a part in setting up this project as WandaVision appeared to in the finale's mid-credits scene with Monica Rambeau talking with a Skrull.
It's also possible that the presence of the Skrull in the TVA is related to them using their shapeshifting powers, whether it be as part of a timeline-altering crime or as an ally to the TVA. Loki has been shown to have similar appearance manipulation abilities, so it's possible this comparison could come into play during the series.
Loki premieres on Disney+ June 11 , and Secret Invasion is set for a 2022 release on the platform.
