Marvel Reportedly Wants Fantastic Beasts Star Carmen Ejogo To Play New MCU Character

The world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding on the small screen, meaning that more characters will be given the chance to shine in their own series.

WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier proved that this formula from Marvel Studios worked for Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff and Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson respectively, considering that it expanded their arcs significantly.

One of the MCU mainstays that will receive the same treatment is Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, and he will do so by starring in a Skrull-infused series in the form of Secret Invasion. The upcoming Marvel show will also showcase the return of Ben Mendelsohn's Talos from 2019's Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home

The lead pair will be joined by a stellar ensemble, with the likes of Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Killian Scott (Love/Hate), and Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore) all reportedly playing unknown roles in the series. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but it is expected to take inspiration from the comic book under the same name which features the surprise invasion of evil Skrulls on Earth.

Production has yet to begin, but it seems that the show will look to bring another addition to its star-studded cast.

The Illuminerdi shared in a report that Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion is looking for a Black or Asian female lead in the 45-70 age range. The role is said to be from the same world as Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, and it is being touted as a powerful leader with a spy feel.

The outlet also revealed that Fantastic Beasts star Carmen Ejogo is in talks for the aforementioned role.

ANOTHER STELLAR ADDITION TO SECRET INVASION

While fans can take this rumor with a grain of salt, it looks like Secret Invasion is looking towards adding more characters to fill in the ranks of Nick Fury's SWORD. The rumored character is described as a “powerful leader,” and this could hint that she will be a high-ranking official of the space-based organization.

The ongoing trend for casting news for Secret Invasion is the fact that the roles are unnamed, so it's possible that Carmen Ejogo will be an original character intended for the Disney+ series. Based on the premise of the show, it's hard to pinpoint if Ejogo will serve as an ally or an enemy to Fury.

The actress' previous experience in projects like True Detective and The Purge: Anarchy is an added bonus heading into Secret Invasion, especially after Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased that the show will tap “into the paranoia elements of the Secret Invasion comic series.”

Ejogo had a supporting role in both 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and 2018's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as President Seraphina Picquery.

Although WandaVision already introduced SWORD to the larger MCU, the organization is still shrouded in mystery. For starters, it is unknown if Fury is connected to SWORD, but evidence suggests that the former SHIELD director knows everything that is happening on Earth aside from an imminent (or already happening) Skrull invasion.

If that is the case, then Fury and Talos will definitely need all the help that they can get in this mission, and there's a chance that the list will start on Ejogo's rumored character.

Secret Invasion is confirmed to release on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
