For International Women's Day 2022, Marvel Studios took the opportunity to celebrate some of its biggest female heroes that will help carry the MCU through Phase 4 and beyond. Included in that group of heroes is Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson, who's set to take on her second MCU solo movie in early 2023 with The Marvels.
Although Larson is the central character in this cosmic MCU sequel, she'll be far from the only powerful woman making her mark on the franchise in this highly-anticipated sequel. She'll have both Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan and Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau at her side after the two newcomers' first appearances in this year's Ms. Marvel and last year's WandaVision, respectively.
Not a ton of information is out in the world regarding plot details for Captain Marvel 2, but the cast alone is building substantial hype, as is the inclusion of up-and-coming director Nia DaCosta. With so many impressive female professionals driving The Marvels forward to its upcoming release, Larson took the opportunity to celebrate their work on social media.
Brie Larson Celebrates International Women's Day
The Marvels star Brie Larson took to Twitter to celebrate International Women's Day. To do this, she shared a drawing featuring herself as Captain Marvel alongside Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel.
Larson included the following caption, expressing the love and respect she has for her two co-stars:
"Happy International Women's Day to my Marvel sisters, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani! You two inspire me more than you know and I'm honored to be saving lives alongside you. "
Captain Marvel 2 Bringing Powerful Women to the MCU
Marvel Studios certainly has an impressive group of female superheroes, which are finally being featured as the stars of solo movies like 2019's Captain Marvel and 2021's Black Widow. Now, after WandaVision also added to that collection in 2021, with Ms. Marvel still coming this year, 2023 will kick things off in this regard with The Marvels.
Larson has always been one to celebrate women in filmmaking, and she's helped head some of the MCU's biggest moments with female heroes in her short time with the franchise. After leading the way in Captain Marvel, Larson showed even more power with her character in Avengers: Endgame, even getting to team up with the MCU's other heroines in the fight against Thanos.
Now, Captain Marvel is set to make an exciting comeback alongside both Monica and Kamala in a movie that should have a big impact on the MCU's cosmic future. With Kamala Khan's first introduction to other superheroes and a tense reunion set for Larson and Parris' characters, there will be no shortage of thrilling action and drama in Marvel's first movie of the new year.
The Marvels is set to debut in theaters on February 17, 2023.
