After it was officially announced that Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani would be joining Brie Larson in Captain Marvel 2, titular star Brie Larson has been hyping up director Nia DaCosta, who was hired by Marvel Studios this past August to take the reins of the sequel. Larson also mentioned recently that she would begin getting back into shape soon in preparation for Captain Marvel 2.
It is likely that Secret Invasion , an upcoming MCU Disney+ show, will directly lead into the Captain Marvel sequel, just as WandaVision will lead into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It's likely that Captain Marvel 2 will be about the Skrull invasion of Earth. While Iman has been quiet about her inclusion in the sequel, Parris was recently asked about her inclusion and expressed her excitement at the prospect of working with the two actresses.
CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 TEAM-UP INCOMING
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Teyonah Parris was asked about what she is excited to explore with Monica in upcoming projects like Captain Marvel 2. Of course, Parris says that she can't say much without spoiling WandaVision:
“Without giving anything away? It's like you haven't seen anything in WandaVision so it's hard to say what I'm looking forward to carrying over if you don't know that yet, so not really.”
Parris did express her excitement at working with Brie Larson and Iman Vellani, and that fans will probably get to learn more in “a couple weeks,” likely meaning once WandaVision has finished:
“I am excited, just as the actress, to join Brie and Iman and see what putting these three superheroes together. Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau. What will happen in that film? The rest we're just gonna have to wait a couple weeks before we can really talk about that.”
MCU'S MONICA RAMBEAU IS HERE TO STAY
It seems clear that what happens to Monica in WandaVision will carry over into the sequel to Captain Marvel, especially since this series will also explain what Monica did after Carol departed into deep space with the Skrulls. The way Parris dances around the question, it seems like fans will find out soon what exactly happens to Ms. Rambeau in WandaVision that will be important in Captain Marvel 2.
It's likely that Parris very well knows what Captain Marvel 2 will entail, at least the broad-strokes, as Brie Larson seemed aware of Nia DaCosta's pitch for the sequel, saying that she “gave an incredible presentation.” Nia DaCosta herself has expressed support for fellow MCU directors like Chloé Zhao and the creative-freedom she was given on Eternals. Hopefully, Marvel Studios has given DaCosta the same creative freedom for Captain Marvel 2.
Captain Marvel 2 is currently slated to release on November 11, 2022, after being moved from July 8, 2022.
