Captain Marvel 2 is one of the most anticipated movies in the stacked list of MCU projects over the next few years. Not much is known if the upcoming sequel will be part of the ambitious Phase 4 slate of the franchise, but it's possible that it will be included in Phase 5 instead due to its 2022 release date

The sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel will see the return of Brie Larson as the titular character, and as expected, the Academy-Award winning actress will be joined by notable MCU additions once again. It was confirmed during Disney Investor Day that Iman Vellani will make her big-screen debut as Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel in Captain Marvel 2 alongside WandaVision's Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau.

Plot details of Captain Marvel 2 are still being kept under wraps, but previous rumors seem to hint that the film will set up the story of the fifth Avengers film. Production has yet to commence for the sequel, but a new tidbit from its lead star may offer clues that cameras could start rolling soon.

NEWS

In a recently-released YouTube video, Captain Marvel star Brie Larson confirmed that she started training for her return to the much-anticipated sequel:

“As you may know Captain Marvel 2 is gearing up, I can't say much more about it other than that, but I'm gonna get ready for it. It's time for me to get moving.”

The reveal can be watched starting at the 1:45 mark of the video below.

Alongside the confirmation from the actress, the Captain Marvel symbol can be seen at the top most part of her gym in the video.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Larson's confirmation that she already started training for Captain Marvel 2 bodes well for the production timeline of the sequel. Given that it was previously rumored that the film will shoot some scenes overseas, it would make sense for Larson to start her training regimen for the film so that she can rehearse stunts and scenes as soon as possible.

Right now, it is expected that Marvel Studios has stringent health protocols in place for their projects in order to avoid delays. It appears that the said measures are working since several properties like Shang-Chi and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier already wrapped filming, and the same set of rules will no doubt be implemented for the sequel.

Despite that, uncontrollable conditions such as the worsening COVID-19 situation in the United Kingdom will no doubt be considered by the studio, especially after production for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was temporarily halted. Since filming overseas is essential for Captain Marvel 2, it's safe to say that every sequence counts during shooting, adding more proof behind Larson's (early) timeline for training.

On the flip side, there's a chance that Larson is gearing up for a potential appearance in Ms. Marvel due to the strong ties of her character with Kamala. Filming is now underway for the Disney+ series, and it makes narrative sense for Carol Danvers to pop up for a cameo at the tail-end of the season, ultimately setting up Kamala's role in the sequel.

Whatever the case, it's good to know that Larson is back at work for Captain Marvel 2. Hopefully, more story details about the sequel will arrive soon in order to hype up the film even more.
