After taking its first foray into the DCEU with James Gunn's Peacemaker, HBO Max will return to the comic book world with its upcoming Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace. DC recently released the first look at the In the Heights star's Batgirl suit for the HBO Max flick which will hit the streaming service in late 2022.

The direct-to-streaming movie will see Justice League actor J.K. Simmons reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon while Michael Keaton will tag along as Batman following his return in The FlashThe Mummy and Doom Patrol star Brendan Fraser will be joining the DCEU in Batgirl as popular villain Firefly

DC's highly-anticipated Batman spin-off is currently in production in Glasgow and reportedly causing significant trouble for local businesses in the Scottish City. With filming moving quickly, new set photos have offered the first look at one Justice League star's long-awaited return.

Batgirl will seemingly be the first entry in the updated DCEU as The Flash's time-traveling antics are set to provide a major shake-up moving forward. With Michael Keaton replacing Ben Affleck as Batman, J.K. Simmons' Commissioner Gordon sticking around means the GCPD chief will be older than the Caped Crusader in a change of dynamic.

Simmons will be among a select few actors to have roles in both the DCEU and the MCU, with the actor sticking around not only as Gotham's Commissioner but also as The Daily Bugle's J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man franchise.

Just as Disney+ changed the game of how the MCU releases content, HBO Max will do the same DCEU moving forward. Streaming series like Peacemaker and Green Lantern Corps allow for weekly content to keep fans engaged all year round.

Seeing Warner Bros. using the service to release blockbusters like Batgirl and Blue Beetle has certainly come as a surprise and means DC will have five live-action movies this year alone.

Batgirl is expected to hit HBO Max in late 2022.
