2022 is set to bring some major expansion to the MCU in terms of both stories and characters, particularly in projects like Disney+'s Secret Invasion. While long-standing Avengers like Doctor Strange and Thor will be publicly fighting intense beings and a multiverse's worth of trouble, this spy thriller will put everything MCU fans know into question thanks to the Skrulls.
Samuel L. Jackson will appear as Nick Fury while Ben Mendelsohn will also return as Talos, continuing their partnership after Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: No Way Home. They will also be joined by former Game of Thrones headliner Emilia Clarke, who is thoroughly looking forward to her MCU debut even though she can't talk about her specific role yet.
Fans will also be excited to learn that Clarke is open to the possibility of Secret Invasion not being a one-time deal for her within the MCU.
EMILIA CLARKE HOPES FOR EXTENDED MCU RUN
MCU star Emilia Clarke spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her upcoming appearance in Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion, specifically on her long-term MCU plans.
When asked about the possibility of playing her undisclosed Marvel role for the next decade or more, Clarke admitted that all she could say was "I should be so lucky."
Commenting on how "everyone [she's] spoken to" about the MCU "has only the highest praise to offer," she could only laugh while saying she'd be "down" for that same extended tenure:
"I mean, I should be so lucky is what I’ll say to that. Everyone I know and everyone I’ve spoken to who is a part of the Marvel universe — and actors talk! Everyone has only the highest praise to offer. There’s a reason why actors stay in it. They’re so loved because they’re having loads of fun. So I’m down for that. Sure!"
A DECADE OR MORE IN STORE?
Emilia Clarke is no stranger to blockbuster TV roles, most recently having played Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's Game of Thrones until the HBO series ended in 2019. Coming as the third star from this series to join the MCU recently following Richard Madden and Kit Harington's appearances in 2021's Eternals, she appears ready to be part of the Marvel family for the foreseeable future.
With the MCU having many plans over the next two years alone, Clarke's comments track well after numerous stars have sung Marvel Studios' praises through the years.
The biggest question that remains now is who exactly Clarke will play and how her role will fit into the fabric of the MCU once Secret Invasion turns the franchise on its head. No matter what answers this question brings, it's evident that Marvel has found someone with full faith in the team and who will give her all in any project in which she appears.
Secret Invasion is set to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
