One of the most intriguing projects in Marvel's upcoming film slate is the Celestial historical epic The Eternals . Directed by Chloé Zhao, The Eternals has been described by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as a 7,000-year spanning tale that "changes everything we know about the MCU."

The film was supposed to be released in November 2020, but the COVID-19 outbreak forced Marvel Studios to push their entire film slate back, and The Eternals landed a new premiere date of February 12, 2021. Luckily, the project was able to complete filming before productions were called off, and the film's VFX artists have successfully been able to complete their work from home .

While the official release date is still many months away, fans continue to speculate and anticipate everything the film may have to offer. One of the most exciting features of the upcoming film is its exciting cast , which includes Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, the Black Knight.

Aside from a few set photos and leaked locations , not much is known about what Dane Whitman's live-action adaptation will bring, but a new casting news may reveal a bit more about the eventual hero's personal life.

NEWS

Per the production job posting website Mandy , actor Cesar Rodriguez has been confirmed to play a possibly key role in The Eternals . The actor's resume on the site includes The Eternals in his credits, with the role merely being labeled as "Friends with main character (Kit Harington as Dane Whitman)."

WHAT THIS MEANS

The actor has yet to be confirmed as an addition to the film by Marvel Studios or other casting databases such as IMDb, but only a handful of actors have been officially named by those websites, and with a timeline as expansive as The Eternal 's, there are definitely a lot more characters that have not been revealed.

What's most interesting about the actor's credit is the vague role description. While this could mean the actor is playing an unnamed, very minor character, Marvel Studios has a history of keeping their cards very close to the chest.

Rodriguez could be playing a Marvel character in disguise. Being Latino, Rodriguez might be heralding in an appearance for a famous Latinx Marvel superhero, with Rodriguez either playing the character himself or being related to the possible comic book hero. Cesar Rodriguez could also be playing a famous Marvel side-character, like Martin Freeman's Everett Ross or Randall Park's Jimmy Woo.

Marvel never does anything by accident, and seeing as Rodriguez's affiliation with the film is still being kept under wraps, fans may be in for a fun surprise come February 21, 2021.
