Marvel's blockbuster Phase Four slate is filled with a multitude of new characters and franchises, however, many old favorite Avengers are still set to return in highly-anticipated sequels. Amongst this line-up is the Captain Marvel sequel which recently announced its official title of The Marvels.
Both Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau are set to return in the film, teaming up with Carol Danvers to take on a new villain played by Zawe Ashton. Within Marvel Comics, Carols Danvers is Kamala Khan's idol and inspiration to become Ms. Marvel, while Monica Rambeau has frequently held the Captain Marvel mantle herself.
The official logo for the film was previously released during Marvel's theatrical sizzle reel trailer with elements included to symbolize all three of the superhuman female leads. However, this design has since received some slight changes as the 2022 blockbuster moves closer to beginning production.
THE MARVELS LOGO RECEIVES A SLIGHT UPDATE
In a recent update to the official Marvel website, the logo for the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels has received a slight update.
While only a minor alteration, the Spectrum symbol over the letter A — which represents the inclusion of Monica Rambeau's superhero persona — has been modified to be transparent. Additionally, the background of the logo has been changed from a fiery orange lens flare to a cosmic blue eruption.
The change somewhat harkens back to the original Captain Marvel 2 logo that was revealed during Disney Investor Day, which included a similarly colored blue background whose glow came from a symbol in the middle of the image.
WHAT'S TO COME FROM THE MARVELS
While a minor change, the slight modification to the Spectrum logo in the center of the graphic goes a long way to integrate the symbol more into the overall design, instead of simply overlaying it on top as was previously done. Unfortunately, no real information can be drawn from these changes as these were likely just made recently in response to many fans' criticism of the originally released look.
The Marvels is expected to be heavily tied to the Samuel L. Jackson-led Secret Invasion series that will release on Disney+ next year before this theatrical outing hits theaters on November 11, 2022. Based on this connection, many fans have predicted that Zawe Ashton's character may have some relation to a villainous faction of Skrulls that will attempt to infiltrate humanity in the streaming series.
With filming expected to begin soon, it likely won't be long until fans learn more about the plot of the film as casting confirmations continue and set photos begin to appear online. Given the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series recently concluded its filming, Brie Larson, Teynoah Parris, and Iman Vellani ought to be suiting up for the sequel once again in the next few weeks.
The Marvels is set to hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
