Although the MCU remains the most successful movie franchise in the business these days, the films and TV shows aren't without a mistake or two on the big and small screen. As all eyes look towards the blockbuster releases of Tom Holland's Spider-Man: No Way Home and Benedict Cumberbatch's Multiversal Doctor Strange sequel, both massive accomplishments, eagle-eyed fans have taken to social media to point out MCU errors.
Cumberbatch's first solo movie included one of these errors, as a car in Hong Kong drove straight through Kaecillius and his henchpeople walking through a portal (they should have been run over instead). Even the biggest of blockbusters aren't without their mistakes, such as the funeral scene in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, which included the end of a boom mic above Happy Hogan and Morgan Stark.
The latest error to make headlines comes from 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, which came as the first half of the culmination event of the MCU's Infinity Saga. Specifically, fans have taken to social media to highlight something of a strange hair-based moment from one of the movie's most popular heroes.
Holland's Haphazard Hair in Infinity War
Twitter user @lesbobomb noted a visual continuity error in a scene featuring Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. from 2018's Avengers: Infinity War.
As Tony Stark scolds Peter Parker for staying onboard the alien Q-Ship (even after Stark told him to stay out of the Avengers vs. Black Order fight back on Earth), Holland's hair has a mid-scene style change. As Holland's Peter is pleading his case to Stark, his hair is slicked back and looks fairly tidy. The shot cuts to Downey Jr.'s Tony before cutting back to Peter with notably much messier, longer, and more unkempt hair, as seen below:
A brief clip of the "hair mistake," which was posted on Twitter in early April and has since garnered over a half million view, can be watched below:
Bad Hair Day in MCU Team-Up Film
Although Holland is on top of the entertainment world at the moment thanks to his efforts in Spider-Man: No Way Home, this is a mistake that didn't go unnoticed from his Avengers debut. Looking closely at the footage, it's unmistakable that the editing team used two different takes of this scene when putting it together for the final cut due to how messy Holland's hair is in the second shot.
More than likely, this was the result of reshoots for Infinity War, which is far from uncommon in a Marvel Studios production. The two different versions of the scene could have been filmed months apart from each other, with the crew deciding that Holland's best versions of these lines didn't come from the same take.
Even considering how directors Joe and Anthony Russo are adamant about looking out for the tiniest of potential mistakes like this one, human error will always come into play when putting a movie together.
For a franchise that's now more than 30 projects deep, although none are flawless, it's still quite impressive that only a few moments have seen this kind of attention on social media. These few seconds of footage may highlight one of the more obvious blunders from an MCU film, but Holland's bad hair day certainly won't be the last or biggest error fans see in a movie.
Avengers: Infinity War is streaming on Disney+.
