Chris Hemsworth Speaks on Declining Excitement for His Marvel Thor Future

As Phase 4 of the MCU continues into 2022, Chris Hemsworth remains one of the franchise's longest-running members after playing Thor for more than a decade. Now, the Australian megastar is set to take on his fourth solo movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, which will make him Marvel Studios' first star to get four solo films for one character.

Hemsworth has taken the God of Thunder on an incredible journey since 2011 in three solo films and all four Avengers movies, which also includes a cameo in the Doctor Strange mid-credits scene that was in the early part of Thor: Ragnarok. With Iron Man, Steve Rogers' Captain America, and Black Widow all gone, Thor leads the way in the seniority department, although it will likely be some time until he leads Earth's Mightiest Heroes again.

Now that Hemsworth is confirmed to have at least four solo movies, he seems to be able to play the role for as long as he wants, in as many movies as Marvel will make with the Asgardian royal. However, the MCU veteran may be nervous that the demand for those appearances isn't as high as it once was.

Will Chris Hemsworth Keep Playing Thor?

During an interview with Australia's The Today Show, via Twitter, MCU star Chris Hemsworth revealed that he's concerned about fans not being as interested in Thor films as they were in the past.

While he admitted that he'll keep playing the role as long as Marvel will keep him around, he stated that fan enthusiasm for his character's future may be "waning":

"How many Spider-Mans has he done? He’s a little behind me. I think he’s done three, I’ve done six or seven Thors, so maybe. As long as they’ll have me, I’ll turn up, but I feel like they might be waning that kind of enthusiasm."

Hemsworth was met with overwhelming positivity on the matter from his fellow Australians on the show, although the actor joked that it may just be "the Australian support chain" at work:

"That’s just kind of the Australian support chain though, actually they might be going ‘get rid of him and get someone else.’"

He even went so far as to ask the team to be his own representation for discussions with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige:

"I’ll call Kevin Feige and everyone at Disney, you should be my agent! I’ll give you guys 10%!”

Hemsworth Ready For Much More Thor

With more than a decade of work under his belt already for Marvel Studios, Chris Hemsworth is showing no signs of slowing down in the role of Thor. He's even taken the physical part of the role to new levels with pictures and reports confirming that he's bigger for Thor: Love and Thunder than he's been for any of his previous appearances.

Of course, having played the role in what will be his eighth live-action movie next year, concerns could begin to rise that Hemsworth's time with the MCU is closer to the end than the beginning, particularly with so many new heroes rising to prominence. That being said, it doesn't appear that the actor himself is losing interest in bringing the God of Thunder into the Marvel Studios narrative.

Hemsworth's current contract with Marvel Studios is a mystery, and there are no hints toward where his next appearance will come after his fourth Thor solo film. No matter what comes from a fan perspective, though, the man behind Thor is ready to continue taking on the iconic role for as long as he possibly can.

Thor: Love and Thunder will debut in theaters on July 8, 2022.
