Marvel Writers Debated 'Best Chris' Among Hemsworth, Evans & More

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with a plethora of A-list stars, and intriguingly, it includes the sacred order of the Hollywood Chrises. The superhero franchise is home to Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and Chris Pratt, with only Chris Pine being left out due to his existing relationship with the DCEU.

Hemsworth portrays the MCU's God of Thunder, Pratt plays Peter Quill of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and Evans played Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America during the Infinity Saga. Meanwhile, Pine played opposite Gal Gadot's Diana Prince as the DCEU's Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984.

Through the years, fans have long debated which Chris is the best among the aforementioned actors. The conversation was further amplified due to the actors' involvement in both the MCU and the DCEU, leaving many to choose their picks in debates, online polls, and fun articles.

Aside from choosing the best, the debate also revolved around the worst as well.

Now, as the debate continues on social media, it seems that MCU writers are joining the fun.

While sharing a tweet from Buzzfeed about the "Best Chris" in Hollywood, What If...? head writer A.C. Bradley revealed that the show's writers "spent over an hour" figuring out which among Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pine, Chris Evans, and Chris Pratt reigns supreme.

Unfortunately, fans will never know since she admitted that the "results are shielded" by an NDA:

"The 'What If' writers once spent over an hour figuring this out. We had a sweet 16 grid and everything. Results are shielded by an NDA."

Who is the 'Best Chris' in Hollywood?

It's always fascinating to find out behind the scenes stories in Marvel's heavily-guarded writers' room.

The latest discourse, or Chriscourse (as pointed out by Vulture), has been an ongoing debate, with different winners emerging everytime a poll or online buzz ends.

Based on A.C. Bradley's comments, it's safe to say that fans will never find out the result of the competitive debate that transpired in What If...?'s writers' room, but it's worth speculating.

Let's lay out notable variables.

In terms of superhero tenure, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt clearly have an advantage over Chris Evans due to the fact that Steve Rogers is now officially retired from the MCU. Hemsworth is set to star as Thor in his fourth solo film, marking the first time that a Marvel hero has achieved such a feat, while Pratt will continue his galactic escapades as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in Phase 4.

Chris Pine has a clear disadvantage since he only portrayed Steve Trevor in two DCEU films, with no return in sight due to his character's death. It is unknown if Pine will join the MCU in a future project, but once he does, it's safe to say that the discussion will fire up once again.

In addition, Pine also addressed the ongoing ranking, admitting that he thinks he is the "underdog" Chris among the four of them:

"I feel like I’m the underdog right now so I’ll take all the support I can get... Those damn Chrises man, I just, it’s either change my name or really just step it up."

All bets are off when it comes to the popularity of all the aforementioned Chrises, mainly because they have their respective fan bases worldwide.

Given that there is no clear winner in terms of crowning the Best Chris, it looks like this debate will continue to generate more online buzz.
