Thor: Love and Thunder is mere months away and still relatively little is known about the MCU epic. The project marks the fourth solo adventure for Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian, and the second to be helmed by director Taika Waititi. And while this may be Hemsworth's movie, he will be far from alone in this 2022 Marvel Studios sequel.
Love and Thunder is set to reintroduce Natalie Portman's Jane Foster to the franchise, and this time around she will be picking up a hammer of her own. As part of the latest Thor flick, Portman's Foster is set to take up the mantle of Mighty Thor, a fan-favorite comic character coming to the big screen for the first time.
As of now, plot specifics for the project have been few and far between; however, it is known that Foster and Thor will clash with Gorr the God Butcher (played by Christian Bale). But aside from Gorr, no other major villains have made themselves known in the lead up to the film's first trailer.
That could all change very soon though, as some new LEGO sets seem to reveal yet another big baddie.
The Battle of New Asgard
Instagram user @The.Brick.Wolf leaked a new LEGO set for Thor: Love and Thunder, revealing an attack on New Asgard.
The set named "Attack on New Asgard" comes with Thor, Mighty Thor, and Gorr the God Butcher minifigs, and it seems to feature some sort of giant winged monster taking part in the conflict.
Asgard is Never Safe
Well, it may be a new version of Asgard, but it draws conflict just the same. After the events of Thor: Ragnarok saw the complete obliteration of Asgard-proper, it felt as though the home of Thor and co. might get a bit of a break when it came to big battles and such. Well, that does not seem to be the case.
It looks as though Gorr the God Butcher will be bringing his forces to Earth and, in turn, to New Asgard. However, Valkyrie and the residents of the newly settled community should not shiver in absolute horror, as it would be unlikely that Marvel Studios would eviscerate an Asgard twice in back-to-back solo films.
And who is to say this battle will even take place in Love and Thunder. Long has LEGO released sets for upcoming films that feature events that never actually take place on the big screen.
This, however, with the inclusion of Love and Thunder's two headlining heroes and the movie's big bad, does feel like something that will happen in the Taika Waititi-directed epic.
While it is unclear what exactly this monster that Gorr has deployed on New Asgard is, there is one thing that it could be. It is not an exact match by any means, but it may be the Midgard Serpent seen throughout many Thor comic storylines. Marvel may have reimagined the character for the MCU, but it could be simply LEGO getting creative with the pieces they have; there's also a chance that it's a wholly original beast made for the film.
Fans will have to wait and see, as Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8, 2022.
