Shazam 2: First Look at Shazam Family's Updated Costumes Revealed

Filming for Shazam! Fury of the Gods began with director David Sandberg confirming that Zachary Levi would be getting a new costume as the titular hero. Unfortunately, not a month later, the costume was leaked in less than flattering lighting and Levi without his cape.

In response, Sandberg posted a humorous video with Levi showing off the new costume in equally unflattering lighting which was poked fun at by Levi. However, the leaks wouldn't stop with photos of Djimon Hounsou being captured on set and others showing the true nature of Rachel Zegler's character.

It was arguably only a matter of time until the costumes for the rest of the Shazam family leaked, so Sandberg has decided to get ahead of it.

THE SHAZAM FAMILY DRESSED FOR HEROICS

Anticipating that the other costumes for the rest of the Shazam family would inevitably leak, director David Sandberg decided to cut to the chase and posted a high-quality photo of them himself on Twitter.

He wrote, "Don’t know how long we can keep the new suits from leaking so here’s a pic I took the other day:"

This photo also revealed that actress Grace Fulton, who played the non-superpowered version of Mary Bromfield in the 2019 original, will now be playing both versions of her character (non-superpowered and superpowered) in the sequel.

When this was pointed out, Sandberg jokingly posted"Yes, Grace now plays both parts. But her hair and makeup is slightly different when she’s super so nobody will ever recognize her. Hey, it works for Wonder Woman!"

DARKER COSTUMES FOR SHAZAM FAMILY

It was already teased that the rest of the Shazam family would be getting costume upgrades, too. The most immediate difference is that the coloring is significantly darker for some of them, like Adam Brody's Freddy Freeman and D. J. Cotrona's Pedro Peña. Additionally, the textures on all the suits are far more noticeable than in the previous film.

However, the character who has had the biggest overall design change is Grace Fulton's Mary Bromfield. No longer wearing a traditional-looking skirt, she now sports a leather one similar to Wonder Woman and the ancient Greeks.

Speaking of Fulton, it's interesting that Sandberg decided to use her as Mary Marvel, a sign of the actors aging faster than the studio can film sequels for this franchise. The other actors are younger than Fulton, which will hopefully not be a problem again in the expected threequel film.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently scheduled to release in theaters on June 2, 2023.
