The DC Extended Universe has more than a handful of movies and TV shows coming over the next couple of years, which currently ends with Shazam!: Fury of the Gods as the last movie with a confirmed release date. After 2019’s Shazam! came in as one of the most critically acclaimed movies in the DCEU, hype is slowly building to see what Zachary Levi and crew have planned next.
Filming kicked off for the sequel just a few weeks ago, and it will likely continue through most of the next few months as more cast members reveal themselves. Even considering the amount of special effects needed for this outing, filming will be done with a considerable amount of time before its Summer 2023 debut.
That being said, the film’s director brought a shocking social media post with an unexpected look at the work already done.
AN EARLY LOOK AT SHAZAM! SEQUEL
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg took to Twitter to post the very first look at the upcoming DCEU sequel.
Levi's boots kick off the short trailer, showcasing the new gold plating he will sport on his shins.
The suit's gauntlets and belt are shown off, including a shiny new lightning bolt design on the belt buckle.
The clip showcases the back of the gauntlet and what appears to be part of Levi's superhero cape.
The hero will be sporting new shoulder plating, which comes over an impressively red-colored top part of the costume.
The video is 17 seconds long and features short teases of Zachary Levi's new costume, although most of it is shown in the dark. Levi's character even makes a quip about the darkness with following dialogue:
"Why is it so dark? Probably would’ve been a good idea to have, like, one light on."
JUST A TEASE OF WHAT'S COMING
Fans are absolutely thrilled to see even a small tease of the new costume Zachary Levi will sport in the 2023 DCEU sequel. That being said, the June 2023 release date is the most surprising part of this post considering that the movie is nearly two full years from debuting in theaters.
The Shazam! sequel has been filming for only a month at the longest, even though this tease likely didn't take much time to shoot and edit. Sandberg has been one of the directors that's more open about sharing production updates, however, so this could fall right in line with keeping the world up to speed on the movie's progress.
At the very least, this clip confirms that production is well underway for Sandberg and Levi's next solo outing, which boasts an impressive supporting cast and will take the story to new heights. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for more footage like this to debut, but for now, these 17 seconds are enough to keep fans wanting more.
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods will debut in theaters on June 2, 2023.
