Fans were recently given a good look at the new costumes for the Shazam family in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. After all the recent leaks from the production, director David Sandberg decided to get ahead of it and release a photo of them himself.
Largely praised by fans, one persistent criticism that arose was the coloring of the costumes being much darker than in the previous film. Some have speculated it was because some colors, like green, are difficult to shoot.
Now, Shazam! star Zachary Levi has taken to social media to reassure fans about the colors of the new costumes.
SHAZAM! FURY OF THE FANS
Actor Zachary Levi took to Twitter to thank fans for the feedback on the new suits, saying "Hey y’all! Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s been so supportive of our new suits in Shazam: FotG!"
Levi also addressed criticisms regarding the color of the costumes and that "They are a huge upgrade, full of color (despite the some incorrect conclusions based on ONE PHOTO), and no one feels objectified wearing them. As you were."
COLOR-CORRECTION AWAITING SHAZAM FAMILY
The implication here is that either the lighting on the suits will drastically affect the coloring on them or that they will be adjusted in post-production. Regardless, it seems like the Shazam family suits won't be nearly as dark as they are portrayed in Sandberg's photo.
As one of those fans that were worried about some suits being too dark, it's a relief to read that won't be the case. Not that this was any indication that the film would have lost the lighter tone from its predecessor, considering audiences will get to see Helen Mirren in mythical armor eating a hamburger.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently scheduled to release in theaters on June 2, 2023.
