Elizabeth Olsen is currently gearing up for her fifth big-screen appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she reprises her role as the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This will also come as her first Phase 4 movie and her first MCU movie since 2019's Avengers: Endgame, although she's had plenty of time to shine already recently on the small screen.
Olsen helped kick off Phase 4 alongside Paul Bettany's Vision in the highly-acclaimed WandaVision series on Disney+, which was the first-ever MCU Disney+ show and the first new entry since the Infinity Saga ended. This even became an award-winning effort for Olsen as the show won the MCU's first three Emmy Awards - Olsen was also nominated for a Best Actress award after her performance.
With the Scarlet Witch becoming more powerful than ever in Phase 4, Olsen seems to have checked everything off her MCU bucket list except for being the headliner in her own theatrical movie. Now, ahead of her next showing alongside Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, Marvel's Scarlet Witch has shared her thoughts about getting that potential first solo outing.
Elizabeth Olsen on Scarlet Witch Solo Film
During an interview with On Demand Entertainment for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen addressed the chances of Marvel Studios developing a Scarlet Witch solo movie.
When asked if this is in the cards for Olsen, she admitted that she didn't have any knowledge on the matter, but would gladly star in a Scarlet Witch movie if Marvel has "a good story to tell." However, she also wouldn't mind taking on that challenge after enjoying a quick break from the Marvel world:
Interviewer: "Wanda’s had her own TV series, which is fine, but when is she getting her own movie?"
Olsen: "Oh, I don’t know, but if they have a good story to tell, I’ll be there."
Interviewer: "After a long break first?"
Olsen: "Yes, exactly, or even a little one. Just some version of a break."
Due to the way Olsen's contracts with Marvel usually work, there is no telling when or where she will pop up after Doctor Strange 2, in which she plays second-fiddle only to the titular master magician. Even so, considering how powerful she is and taking into account that she could help introduce the MCU to mutants in the future, Marvel certainly has an opening to make Olsen the leading lady in a new movie.
Will Marvel Make a Scarlet Witch Movie?
The MCU is growing more expansive than ever in Phase 4, with nearly a dozen new properties either already released or deep into development for arrival in the near future. There are also plenty of other projects centered on veteran MCU characters such as Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, meaning a Scarlet Witch film certainly wouldn't be off the table.
Thus far, Olsen's Scarlet Witch has largely played a supporting role in the past three Avengers films and Captain America: Civil War, although she took the lead billing and ran with it in WandaVision. Considering how much acclaim she received for her efforts in a six-hour streaming program that set a new standard for streaming shows, there is no reason to think that she wouldn't succeed with her own big-screen film.
Thankfully, with such an accomplished MCU career already under her belt, Olsen appears ready for the challenge.
All nine episodes of WandaVision are available to stream on Disney+. Olsen will return as the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which debuts in theaters on May 6.
