Samuel L. Jackson recently teased his return as Nick Fury on Instagram by showing off his prosthetic beard, but didn't specify if it was for Secret Invasion or The Marvels. Many had assumed it was for the former, as he was already confirmed as the lead of Secret Invasion at the 2020 Disney Investor's Meeting.

Additionally, Secret Invasion was reported to begin filming sometime this August, seemingly supported by Jackson's social media post. Brie Larson also teased that filming for The Marvels had begun, so it was up in the air which project Jackson was filming for.

Today, Jackson has seemingly decided to clear up any potential confusion caused by his previous Instagram post.

In a recent post on Instagram, Jackson indicated that he has officially joined the cast of The Marvels, using the hashtag "#TheMarvels" to seemingly announce his involvement in the Captain Marvel sequel.

In this post confirming his involvement, Jackson shared a t-shirt designed by artist J. Pierce depicting Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction.

SMALLER ROLE IN THE MARVELS

It seems apparent that Nick Fury will have a drastically reduced role in The Marvels compared to his appearance in Captain Marvel. Not only will Fury be headlining his own Disney+ show filming around the same time as The Marvels, but Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan will be acting as co-stars to Brie Larson's Carol Danvers instead.

It's currently unknown when Secret Invasion will be released, but it is highly likely that it could lead into The Marvels. So, it's likely that Jackson could be acting as the bridge between his series and the Captain Marvel sequel.

Perhaps whatever conflict Fury is dealing with in Secret Invasion spills over into The Marvels, similar to WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' connections.

The Marvels is currently scheduled to release in theaters on November 11, 2022.
