Sony is rapidly looking to expand on its cinematic Spider-Man Universe, particularly after the disappointing reaction to the studio's most recent film, Morbius. On top of Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven the Hunter and potentially Tom Hardy's Venom 3, Dakota Johnson will also bring a new outing in Madame Web. She even recently got her first co-star for the movie - Sydney Sweeney.

Following her time on the award-winning Euphoria next to Spider-Man: No Way Home's Zendaya, Sweeney is ready to take on her first role in the world of superhero movies - arguably her biggest role to date. While it's still a mystery who she will play, fans are already expecting the young star to be a big part of Sony's plans for the foreseeable future.

Very little is known at the moment about Madame Web, which only recently made its presence felt on social media for the first time before it starts production. Now, ahead of her time in the world of Spider-Man, Sweeney recently opened up about her inclusion in the film with her first public quotes on the matter.

In an interview with Variety, Sydney Sweeney spoke about her upcoming role in Sony Pictures' Spider-Man spin-off movie Madame Web.

When asked about how she chooses which roles to take, Sweeney revealed that she looks for roles that are "completely different from one another" and come with multiple kinds of challenges. She also wants to "shock people" by playing characters that are unexpected for her:

“I like to try and find characters that are challenging for me in multiple different ways, and are completely different from one another. I want to continue to shock people with the characters that I play when they don’t expect that I would choose that next.”

As for Madame Web specifically, the actress shared that she's reading "a bunch of comic books" to prepare for her role. On top of that, she's been a fan of both Marvel and Sony's movie universes and admitted that she loves having the opportunity to join the story on the big screen:

“I am. I’ve been ordering a bunch of comic books. There’s a lot to learn. I’ve always been a really big fan of all of the Marvel and Sony Universe movies. I’ve grown up watching them all, and I’ve been engulfed in the entire world my entire life, so being able to be a part of that is such an incredible, incredible thing.”

Sweeney Preparing For New Marvel Character

With Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' extensive history of Marvel movies, the movie moguls now have a chance to bring in actors who have watched these films evolve over the last two decades. These quotes make it clear that Sweeney is part of this enormous fan base, having ingratiated herself with the films throughout her life before taking on her biggest blockbuster role yet.

Sweeney has been fan-cast in various roles across the Spider-Verse, most prominently for female heroes like Black Cat and Gwen Stacy. Her role likely won't be made public until closer to when production for the movie starts, but it seems that she'll be one of the more important supporting players alongside Johnson in this story.

No matter who she plays, Sweeney's enthusiasm should be encouraging to fans who are hoping for a better product from Sony's superhero saga as it expands. Madame Web will at least be something different from previous outings like the Venom films and Morbius, and Sweeney will hopefully be able to add her expertise to make it an entertaining story.

Madame Web is in the early stages of pre-production for Sony Pictures.
