One of the newest MCU superheroes from Phase 6 will make history for the franchise as it moves toward the end of the Multiverse Saga. While Phase 6 has fewer movies than any previous slate in MCU history, it is already bringing some of the biggest comic book movies ever released and will only continue down that path.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, released on July 31, introduced Stranger Things star Sadie Sink as the MCU's Jean Grey. While she was portrayed as the main antagonist, she was revealed to be a victim of the Department of Damage Control's actions, leading her to pursue Tramell Tillman's William Metzger and seek revenge for her sister's death.

Sink's casting as Jean Grey gives the MCU its first-ever member of the X-Men to be adapted as part of the Earth-616 universe. While legacy X-Men like Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor X and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine starred in past MCU movies, Sink's Jean is the first mutant to come from the same universe as the MCU's Avengers and surrounding heroes.

Sink is already confirmed for a role in 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars, although her specific place in the story is still being kept under wraps. From there, she will be seen in the MCU's first X-Men movie, which will release on May 5, 2028.

Additionally, Phase 6 will put a few other newer heroes into the spotlight, starting with Ruaridh Mollica joining the MCU as Tommy Maximoff/Speed in VisionQuest. Introduced as one of Wanda and Vision's twins in WandaVision (previously played by Jett Klyne), Mollica will embody an older version of Tommy outside of the Hex when the show hits Disney+ on October 14.

On December 18, half a dozen legacy X-Men will return to action in Avengers: Doomsday, marking many of their first appearances in over a decade. Led by Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto), and James Marsden (Cyclops), this team will be brought in through an alternate universe, and they are already set for an epic duel against the MCU's Avengers before taking on Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom.

For the first time in nearly a decade, Finn Jones will reprise his role as Danny Rand/Iron Fist under Marvel Studios' watch. Having last been seen in 2018's Iron Fist Season 2 on Netflix, he will return for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 in March 2027, reuniting him with the rest of the Defenders team on Disney+.

Finally, Your Friendly Neigborhood Spider-Man will deliver Marvel Studios' first story for Gwen Stacy, one of the most iconic characters from Spider-Man lore, in Season 2 next January.

While Gwen has not been realized in the live-action MCU, Gwen will be the newest addition to the animated world, bringing her classic white and pink costume and snarky attitude into play alongside Hudson Thames' Peter Parker.

At the 2026 D23 Expo, Marvel Studios closed out its Friday night panel by confirming that the franchise's first X-Men movie will come to theaters on May 5, 2028, as part of Phase 7. Along with director Jake Schreier coming on stage to celebrate the movie, he and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige helped introduce the film's first six cast members.

Led by Sadie Sink in her return as Jean Grey, Samara Weaving became the first new cast member confirmed for the movie, as she will play near-Omega-level telepath, Emma Frost (previously played by January Jones). Meanwhile, Heartstopper fan-favorite Kit Connor will take over the role of Cyclops, following in James Marsden and Tye Sheridan's footsteps to play the X-Men's in-battle leader.

Additionally, Poor Things star Christopher Abbott will be the MCU's new Professor Charles Xavier (following Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy), taking his second Marvel role after an appearance in Sony's Kraven the Hunter. Obsession star Inde Navarrette then joined the fray, taking over the role of Rogue from the original franchise's Anna Paquin.

Ororo Munroe/Storm was also confirmed for this movie, with Broadway star Maya Boyd taking on her first-ever movie role as the Omega-level mistress of the elements. Finally, Star Wars icon Adam Driver will take his talents to Marvel, embracing the villainous Mr. Sinister in the first live-action depiction of the character.

This group and the rest of the new X-Men will help add a new flavor to the MCU after 19 years of movies, giving longtime viewers and new fans alike a chance to see a fresh set of faces drive this franchise forward alongside the Avengers. They should also have the chance to deliver some of the best X-Men material yet in a live-action movie, especially after a few of the later films from Fox's X-Men Saga became such critical and financial disappointments.

While the legacy X-Men will bring plenty of excitement to close out the Multiverse Saga, having a new cast of stars helps further close that chapter and move into a world in which the mutants exist alongside other powerful heroes. Allowing for interactions that were never possible in the X-Men Saga, it will also help the MCU expand into a new chapter of stories behind a cast that should be around for at least a decade.

While Marvel Studios is bringing back some of its older characters in Doomsday, establishing a fresh (and less expensive) cast who can star in multiple movies could be a strong step forward to future-proof the franchise for years to come.
