Harley Quinn was a surprise success for now-defunct streaming platform DC Universe, quickly migrating over to Warner Bros.’ more recent venture HBO Max and being picked up for a big, bombastic blowout of a third season. While Season 3 of the hit animated show will hit the service sometime this summer, another series set in the same universe will follow soon after.

The spin-off was announced to be titled Noonan’s, chronically Kite Man’s adventures running a seedy bar in Gotham City while Harley and Poison Ivy romance each other in their own show. Kite Man’s solo adventures are said to have him bump into a few notable villains, including the likes of Giancarlo Esposito’s Lex Luthor and James Adomian’s Bane

Now, the spin-off has had an exciting update from the streamer.

Harley Quinn Spin-off Gets Series Order

Variety has confirmed that Harley Quinn's animated spin-off Noonan's officially received a series order from HBO Max, with the show set for a 10-episode season.

The animated show will follow Kite Man, as he teams up with new love interest and Flash villain Golden Glider. The series finds the two purchasing Noonan's, the shadiest bar in Gotham City, while taking part in criminal activities to fund their acquisition.

Suzanna Makkos, executive vice president of original comedy and adult animation for HBO Max and Adult Swim, expressed excitement for the Harley Quinn off-shoot, saying that Noonan's "had" to be made after the original series:

“We love the wild and fun world of ‘Harley Quinn’ so much we just had to make a spin-off and who better to center it around than the outcast Kite Man... Justin, Patrick, and Dean have created the perfect local hangout for Gotham City’s not-so-finest at Noonan’s, where bar patrons can blow off steam after a long day of mayhem.”

What's Next for Noonan's?

While a 10-episode order is slightly fewer than Harley Quinn's first two seasons that each received 13 installments, this should provide enough room to carve out Kite Man's side of the Harley Quinn universe.

Golden Glider is a lesser-known villain of the Flash, only being adapted once in the Scarlet Speedster's CW show. This version lacked many of the bells and whistles that made Lisa Snart unique, so it's likely that Noonan's will feature a more classic rendition of the character that actually has the ability to glide.

The addition of an obscure Flash rogue may seem like an unexpected choice to co-star alongside the crude but lovable kite-themed villain, but given the two's shared love of falling with style, it really is a match made in heaven.

The addition also signals that DC will be taking this opportunity to broaden the show's collective cast of characters. Golden Glider's brother, Captain Cold, briefly appeared as a member of the Legion of Doom in Harley Quinn, so it's more than likely that his role will be bumped up to allow the siblings to interact.

No concrete release window for Noonan's has been given, but fans can catch Harley Quinn Season 3 when it arrives on HBO Max this summer.
