The fate of Harley Quinn was a hot topic among many fans during last week's DC FanDome due to the uncertainty surrounding the DC Universe streaming service after the news of massive layoffs and several programs shifting to HBO Max.

Previously, Harley Quinn executive producer Dean Lorey was optimistic about the future of the animated series by sharing that he would "love to make one [season three]" if the opportunity presents itself. However, news broke that talks regarding the renewal of the hit animated series have stalled due to a management shake-up behind-the-scenes.

Now, it seems that the animated series led by Kaley Cuoco (Big Bang Theory) has a bright future ahead based on a new report.

CONFIRMATION

The Hollywood Reporter shared in a report that Harley Quinn has been renewed for a third season and will now move from DC Universe to HBO Max.

In a separate report, Harley Quinn showrunners Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern spoke with Comicbook to express their excitement about the renewal. Schumacker revealed that they still need to "fill out the writing staff" while also "looking for new voices" ahead of the third season:

"We have to fill out the writing staff. Fortunately, quite a few of the writers that were with us for Seasons 1 and 2 are available still, possibly to their chagrin. But we are going to be looking for new voices for this season because we will have holes to fill, and new points of view that we will be looking for specifically moving forward. I think that's the immediate step is solidifying who our staff is going to be moving forward."

The report from Comicbook also mentioned that the showrunners "only learned the news two days ago, and said they have to get to work on the new episodes in earnest."

Meanwhile, HBO Max confirmed the third season renewal of Harley Quinn by posting a new image from the hit animated series.

WHAT THIS MEANS

The news of the renewal of Harley Quinn came with the announcement of the rebranding of DC Universe to a solely comic book subscription service. This means that HBO Max will now be the new home of several DC Universe originals like Titans and Doom Patrol, as well as Young Justice.

Fans have been waiting for an update about the fate of Harley Quinn for quite some time now, and the news of a third season renewal should ease their concerns. The first two seasons of Harley Quinn managed to impress fans, and it will be interesting to see how the character and the narrative will move forward during the upcoming season.

It remains to be seen if the budget of the show had a direct effect towards the show's renewal, especially after recent reports revealed that talks have stalled due to monetary reasons. Still, with a renewal officially confirmed, it appears that the two sides agreed to an appropriate budget, and there's a chance that a sizable one could be in play due to the massive success of the show.

Nevertheless, the third season of Harley Quinn will definitely open up new doors for more stories down the line while also fleshing out the anti-hero even more.
