Thanks to the overwhelming success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Walt Disney Company has every reason to use the franchise's stories and characters for promotional material. One of the biggest places that Marvel's characters are making appearances is at Disney's theme parks, both as heroes that fans can meet and as a part of park attractions.
An attraction that's currently running is the "Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!" ride at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim, California, for which James Gunn filmed material with the cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
More will be coming in June when Avengers Campus opens at the same park, which includes the "WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure" ride starring Tom Holland's MCU character.
News has come regarding another attraction on the other side of the United States, although it goes back to James Gunn's pet project within the MCU.
THE GUARDIANS COMING TO DISNEY WORLD
In an interaction on Twitter, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was asked by a fan if he would be filming scenes for the "Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind" ride at Epcot in Disney World:
Are ride scenes for GotG: Cosmic Rewind also on the itinerary @JamesGunn, or has that been done separately? https://t.co/mZyW9zZ9yn
Gunn responded and confirmed that he has scenes for the ride "on the agenda" before the ride opens in 2023:
Yes Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Disneyworld is also on the agenda. https://t.co/KLWL7cYjXL
THE MCU'S PRESENCE IN THEME PARKS IS GROWING
While this is certainly exciting news for Disney World in Orlando, FL , details of the material are somewhat contradictory to news from a few months ago.
In January 2021, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi was said to be filming scenes for this very same ride , which would fit well considering the Guardians will play a role in Chris Hemsworth's fourth solo movie in 2022. However, there was nothing that said Gunn would also be filming scenes with the cast for the same ride.
There's a slight chance that both reports are right, meaning both Gunn and Waititi would be filming scenes for this exciting new ride before the release of their respective movies in theaters.
In the end, fans will have to wait to see what material makes it into the ride and which director's work ends up as part of the experience.
Thor: Love and Thunder will release in theaters on May 6, 2022. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 will arrive in theaters in 2023.
