After a wild day of announcements at Disney+ Day where Marvel confirmed details on more than a dozen projects, Marvel Studios is now returning to work on its plethora of movies and shows joining the MCU party. The most recent of these entries to begin filming is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, director James Gunn's third blockbuster outing with Marvel Studios.
While the story behind Vol. 3 is still largely a mystery, Gunn has confirmed that the movie is bringing back nearly every key player that helped build the franchise from the ground up.
From Chris Pratt's Star-Lord to Zoe Saldana's Gamora and more, the intergalactic team of a-holes that fans have known and loved since 2014 will all be joining forces for one more intense adventure after Avengers: Endgame. They will also come face-to-face with Will Poulter's Adam Warlock, which will add a whole new layer of insanity to whatever lies ahead of them.
Also waiting in the wings from the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are the original Guardians, who were showcased in full during the second of the movie's five post-credits scenes. While it's unclear what their trajectory is, their leader recently confirmed that his MCU journey is far from over.
Sylvester Stallone Makes His MCU Return
Sylvester Stallone confirmed through an Instagram video that he will return to the MCU as Stakar Ogord in 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
While Stallone only appeared in his everyday clothes, he opened the video by saying "Here I am on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy" before explaining what he's up to on set.
Stallone revealed that he's in the middle of a 3D facial scan session which captures every detail of his face and facial movements for when the team needs a reference to use for his character, indicating that Stallone's Stakar Ogord will have decent screentime in Vol. 3.

Rocky Star Stallone Back for Another Marvel Round
After building an epic 40-year career in action movies like the Rocky and Rambo series, Sylvester Stallone teamed up with James Gunn for the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy in 2017. His character only had a couple of scenes in the core story, although his post-credits scene with the original Guardians set up something potentially big for yet another galactic team of a-holes.
Considering how much is coming in this new threequel, it's unclear exactly how big Stallone's role will be, especially with Yondu now gone and Kraglin taking his place as a leader of the Ravagers. Fans will also be looking to see if his teammates like Michelle Yeoh's Aleta Ogord and Miley Cyrus' Mainframe are set to play a part in the story as well.
No matter when that news comes, Stallone's return to the MCU is an exciting development amongst everything else that's set to arrive with this intergalactic sequel. As filming moves further past its first week, fans will be on the lookout for any more information regarding the size of Stallone's role and if his original Guardians teammates will be along for the ride.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently filming and will release in theaters on May 5, 2023.
