One of the biggest movies still awaiting release from Warner Bros. is James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, slated for a theatrical release on August 6, 2021. It seemed that Warner Bros. was so happy with Gunn's work on the film that he was allowed to write a spin-off series for HBO Max based on Peacemaker, which is pending to start filming by next week.

However, regarding The Suicide Squad, James Gunn confirmed to a fan that John Ostrander, the creator of the '80s iteration of the Suicide Squad in the comics, will be making a cameo appearance playing Dr. Fitzgibbon. But, Ostrander won't be the only surprise James Gunn has in store for The Suicide Squad.

NEWS

In an impromptu video message to his followers on Instagram, Sylvester Stallone announced that we would be doing "a little work" with James Gunn on The Suicide Squad. Stallone did not disclose what role he would be playing, but that it will be "well worth the wait."

"Good morning everyone, it's Saturday and I'm on my way over to do a little work with a great director, James Gunn, on Suicide Squad 2, and I think it's gonna be a spectacular effort. I saw it and it's unbelievable. So, I'm very proud to be included and I can't tell you anything more about it because you're going to have to wait and see that, but it's going to be well worth the wait.

Anyway, keep punching, and see you in the movies."

Update: Gunn has taken to his own Instagram to comment on Stallone's announcement, saying,

"Always love working with my friend Stallone & our work today on "The Suicide Squad" was no exception. Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don’t have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is.

WHAT THIS MEANS

The last time that James Gunn worked with Sylvester Stallone was on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where Stallone played Stakar Ogord. Since principal photography for The Suicide Squad finished nearly a year ago, Sylvester Stallone can't be filming anything more than a cameo at best. Stallone even mentions having already seen a cut of The Suicide Squad. This could potentially be a tease for a role in a future sequel, or maybe he's appearing in a post-credit scene.

Although, it is a tad odd that Sylvester Stallone would be shooting something for The Suicide Squad now when James Gunn's mandatory quarantine in Vancouver before filming Peacemaker won't be over for at least another week. But, Gunn could film Sylvester Stallone's part in a similar way that Zack Snyder did for Ezra Miller.
