While Marvel Studios has plenty of exciting material to look forward to in the near future, fans have recently looked back to an earlier project in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This show returns to prominence due to a strange change in footage that recently went live on Disney+, one which comes alongside recent discussions about censorship from Disney as a whole.
Over the last few days, Disney adjusted a couple of moments in Episode 3 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that were much bloodier and more gruesome in the original cut. Specifically, Dr. Nagel's death removed all the blood from his face and had his eyes closed, while a fight between Bucky Barnes and a bounty hunter was edited to be less gory as well.
This started quite the discussion amongst Marvel fans who noticed the change, especially after Disney+ recently brought the formerly Netflix-owned Marvel series in the Defenders catalog onto the service. Now, one of the actors in focus on these edits has shared his thoughts on his new look in the show.
Falcon/Winter Soldier Star on Disney+ Censors
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Olli Haaskivi, who played Dr. Nagel, commented on the change to his scene in Episode 3 of the Disney+ show.
Haaskivi shared The Direct's comparison of his scene before and after the censorship changes, joking about how much "traction" his images have seen on the Internet from this news:
"Glad to know that these gorgeous photos of me have had a lot of traction on the internet today..."
"(yes I AM available for modeling gigs, don't all DM me at once PLEASE)"
In the comments on his Instagram page, fans recalled his character from the episode as Nagel made the new version of the Super Soldier serum for Karli Morgenthau and the Flag Smashers. Haaskivi shared these comments and replied comedically with "it was indeed the nerdy dude:"
Dr. Nagel's Moment of Censored Fame
The most common reaction to this sudden change in the footage was one of confusion as fans saw much less blood and violence than they did about a year ago on Disney+. Thankfully the actor who saw those changes happen to his character is taking it in stride as he enjoys the moment when he met his end on screen in Episode 3.
Haaskivi clearly enjoyed this moment, particularly the internet discourse that arose quickly once fans noticed how his death changed in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He didn't allude to anything regarding how the censorship behind this moment changed for the time being, and his comments will bring a laugh or two to anybody looking for his reaction to the matter.
Now, the big question on fans' minds is how Disney+ moves forward with censoring violent moments like this one. There are already signs that things are set to go back to normal in the near future, but for now, the actor and fans alike are taking the moment in as light-hearted of a fashion as possible.
