Disney+ Reveals Upgrade to Marvel Netflix Shows Coming Soon

The Defenders and Marvel's other Netflix original series made an unprecedented move away from their streaming home to join the rest of the MCU on Disney+. After two years of legal hurdles and difficulties, all six of the street-level Marvel epics have made their way onto Disney+ to fans' delight, but some were left disappointed by one key flaw.

In an ever-growing technological age, both visual and audio quality have become increasingly important to audiences. While it wasn't too long ago that TVs were square and content was played via VHS tape, home entertainment has made great strides in the streaming era where 4K displays have become increasingly standard in home setups.

With this equipment now available to streamers around the world, viewers naturally expect to be able to take full advantage of it to ensure the best quality. But as the Marvel Netflix shows arrived on Disney+, many were disappointed to discover the quality was limited to HD.

Fortunately, it seems Disney intends to fix this rather quickly.

Disney+ Reveals Defenders Upgrades Coming Soon

Netflix, Disney

In response to a fan question on Twitter, Disney+ revealed Daredevil and potentially the other Marvel Netflix series will be receiving an exciting upgrade in the near future to add 4K UHD versions.

When asked if the 4K version of Daredevil - which was previously available on Netflix - would be returning on Disney+, the streaming service revealed it will be "available soon." The former Netflix series was only launched in "HD/SDR to start" to ensure they could be made available as soon as possible:

"In an effort to make this highly-anticipated content available to Disney+ subscribers ASAP, we opted to launch in HD/SDR to start, but UHD versions will be available soon. Stay tuned!"

When Will the Marvel Netflix Shows Be Available in 4K?

With most of these series being streaming exclusive, their removal from Netflix left audiences with no legal means to view them. So it isn't surprising the House of Mouse was eager to see them move to Disney+ as quickly as possible to make them accessible to members once again, something it achieved in just 16 days.

Audiences with the equipment necessary to enjoy these series in the enhanced quality will no doubt be delighted to hear this news, after what was surely a disappointing morning when only the SD and HD editions were released.

Given "The Defenders Saga" was already available in 4K on Netflix prior to its removal, it isn't surprising to hear it will be coming to Disney+ in the near future. An exact date for the release has yet to be announced but if the upgrade is already in the works, it could arrive in a matter of weeks.
