Season 3 of DC's Titans series wrapped up on HBO Max in October and was quickly renewed for Season 4 during DC FanDome 2021. The season saw Curran Walters' Jason Todd make the full transformation into the villain Red Hood, who turned out to be working closely with Vincent Kartheiser's Jonathan Crane, better known as Scarecrow.
Titans has been known to loosely follow some DC comic runs, and Season 3 was no exception. Jason's heel turn was a result of being killed by the Joker and then resurrected by use of the Lazarus Pit. This comes straight from the popular 1988 Batman comic Death in the Family, which features the demise of Jason, and also the 2004 comic story titled Under the Red Hood, where he is resurrected as a villain.
Not much is known about the direction Season 4 will take, but there have been some official castings as of late. Actor Joseph Morgan, known for his role in The Originals, will be taking on the task of portraying Brother Blood and will be joined by Franka Potente as Mother Mayhem, as well as Lisa Ambalavanar as Jinx.
More developments have recently been revealed to the public, including the episode count for the upcoming season.
How Many Episodes Will Titans Season 4 Have?
It was recently rumored by Midgard Times that Season 4 of Titans would feature eight episodes. This would have been a deviation from the previous seasons, as Season 1 contained 11 episodes, and Seasons 2 and 3 featured 13.
Boris Mojsovski, who will be directing a portion of Season 4, recently shared a post on Instagram about prep work starting for the show and was asked in the comments how many episodes the season would contain. The director replied to the comment and confirmed that there would be 12 episodes, making Season 4 right around the same length as previous seasons.
What's Ahead in Titans Season 4
Season 3 of Titans was the first batch of episodes to be produced as an HBO Max Original. The first two seasons were released on the DC Universe streaming platform, which was the hub for all DC content prior to it being moved. HBO Max generally follows an eight-episode per season format, as seen with shows like Peacemaker and Euphoria, so it is a bit of a surprise that Titans has gotten the green light to be 12.
As far as the story goes, it seems like Titans will be going back to its original Season 1 roots, which focused on Rachel Roth and her relationship with her father, the demonic supervillain known as Trigon. Brother Blood, who will be appearing in Season 4, is the High Priest of the Church of Blood. This demonic cult is closely tied to Trigon, as their main reason for forming the Church was to worship him.
Trigon is dead thanks to Rachel, who killed him in Season 2, making the upcoming season likely to go one of two ways. Brother Blood could lead the Church of Blood on a mission to kill Rachel as a response to her killing the person they worship, or the Church could even try and resurrect Trigon and then work beside him as he tries to take over Earth and turn it into a version of Hell.
Whatever the case may be, it seems as though Season 4 is well on its way to premiering sometime in late 2022. With Bruce Wayne back in the picture and Tim Drake starting his training as the new Robin under Dick Grayson, the team will need all the help they can get against the Church of Blood.
