While much attention is being paid to the multiverse in the wake of the dramatic finale to Loki on Disney+, there is a slew of other projects on the docket for Phase 4 spanning the breadth of the Marvel Universe.
One of the most exciting of these is The Marvels, the long-awaited follow-up to the smash hit Captain Marvel which will see Brie Larson return as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. Brie will be joined by Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.
While a lot of attention is being paid to the newcomers, some familiar faces from the first film may yet make an appearance. It seems that Carol's former mentor, Yon-Rogg (played by Jude Law), could be returning in The Marvels.
JUDE LAW RETURNING IN THE MARVELS
As first shared by Murphy's Multiverse, it appears that Jude Law could be returning for the Captain Marvel sequel.
A new posting to IMDB shows that John Humber—who worked on the production of Captain Marvel—is working on The Marvels as an assistant to Law.
WHAT HAS YON-ROGG BEEN UP TO?
A key question to consider should Law return as Yon-Rogg in The Marvels is what exactly has he been up to since fans last saw him? Captain Marvel took place in 1995, and Avengers: Endgame set the new "now" in the MCU firmly in 2023, nearly 30 years later. The Kree Empire has likely seen some changes in that time, and it remains to be seen how they were impacted by the cataclysmic events unleashed by Thanos.
Something else to consider is the implication this has for Carol Danvers' activities between Captain Marvel and Endgame. Many had assumed she'd returned to space to battle the Kree. If Yon-Rogg is set to return, then it may be the case that she didn't settle all her scores with the Empire as some had thought.
Fans will have to wait until The Marvels to learn for sure what Carol and Yon-Rogg have been up to since the 90s. The film is set to debut on November 11, 2022.
