New Gods Justice League

After almost a year's worth of hype since its confirmation, HBO Max is now playing host to Zack Snyder's Justice League for all fans to view and dissect. Coming as a retelling of the disastrous 2017 theatrical cut finished by director Joss Whedon , fans are planted in front of their TV and computer screens to see exactly what Snyder's true vision for this film really is.

Even with this four-hour cut now a reality, Zack Snyder's future with the canon DC Extended Universe remains uncertain at best. However, with the mystery of whether Snyder will return for more DC work still present , the famed director hasn't been shy about teasing what his post- Justice League plans would have added to the expansive story.

This continues to be the case in his most recent discussion, in which Snyder speaks on what would have come in a later DCEU team-up effort.

ZACK SNYDER TEASES THE NEW GODS

In a recent interview with Wonder Meg , via ComicBook.com , director Zack Snyder teased what he would have brought to the DC Extended Universe with a potential third Justice League film in his original plans for the series.

Snyder revealed that "all of the New Gods would be rolling in at some point" after the events of Justice League with Steppenwolf, Darkseid and more. Later, the story would have shown off a sort of "New Gods invasion" following these major villains taking on the Justice League:

"All of the New Gods would be rolling in at some point. In the full invasion of Earth... I think you'd really have to go full pedal to the metal with the New Gods at that point. 'Cause like the third movie is a New Gods invasion movie really, in a lot of ways."

Speaking on characters that appear in Zack Snyder's Justice League like DeSaad and Darkseid, Snyder implies that "the rest of them are there" when referring to the New Gods' presence within the DCEU:

"Yeah, there’s a little bit of a [tease], Let me just say this: in this movie you see DeSaad, you see Darkseid, you see one other in the throne room of Apokolips. You see one other of this sort of classic Kirby New Gods, you know what I mean? And I think the implication is that the rest of them are there, for sure."

YET ANOTHER REFERENCE TO DC'S NEW GODS

The New Gods is a property that DC FIlms has seemingly been trying to get off the ground for some time already, long before Snyder specifically mentioned them in his scrapped Justice League 3 plans. However, these ideas seem to line up with a number of teases already laid out in the DCEU's canon story thus far.

In both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the theatrical cut of Justice League , the New Gods are referenced and featured through different plot points, particularly with Steppenwolf being the main villain of Joss Whedon's Justice League . This will continue in the Snyder Cut by utilizing villains like DeSaad and the highly prominent Darkseid , with teases for the DCEU's scrapped future being laid out in that extended film.

Whether Zack Snyder will return to the DCEU to finish what he started is anybody's guess at this moment, although the early reception for the Snyder Cut has been quite positive. As more fans sit through this 242-minute saga and dissect the story Zack Snyder wants the world to see as his vision, it will be interesting to find out how Warner Bros. looks at the results down the road.

For now, Zack Snyder's Justice League is available to stream on HBO Max.
