The Suicide Squad is the upcoming sequel/soft reboot to 2016's Suicide Squad and sounds more and more thrilling as news continues to release about the film.
One of the film's stars, Joel Kinnaman , said the film is "heavily R-rated" and that, despite being in it, he "can’t wait to see it as a fan.” Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn, and teased an action sequence featuring her character during DC FanDome.
Director James Gunn seems to have felt right at home working for DC and the cast and crew of the film. Gunn revealed that the role of Bloodsport was specifically written for Idris Elba, a practice that the director rarely does. Gunn also recently announced a spinoff prequel series revolving around John Cena's Peacemaker, which is being created exclusively for HBO Max

James Gunn recently took the time to thank fans for their fanart contributions, sharing a piece of artwork of Harley Quinn and King Shark by @mowaywayway :
A commenter asked whether Gunn was annoyed that DC and Warner Bros. were "forcing Harley" into The Suicide Squad . Gunn dismissed this claim outright, saying:
She's probably my favorite DC character, and Margot Robbie is probably the best actor I've ever worked with, bar none.
WHAT THIS MEANS
James Gunn clearly has a lot of love for his newfound family at DC, particularly the cast of The Suicide Squad . With the filmmaker going out of his way for Idris Elba's Bloodsport and wanting to continue DC stories by creating a Peacemaker-centric show, Gunn seems to be very much enjoying his time working for DC.
Margot Robbie being "the best actor" James Gunn has worked with speaks to a few points of note. Gunn using this sort of language conveys the close bond that him and the cast have formed during the production of the film. It also hints towards some standout moments with Harley in the film, implying that Robbie has once again given it her all for her performance as the character.
Harley Quinn is a relatively new character in comparison to the other members of the squad, being created for Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. This speaks volumes for the character as a whole, considering how far back Gunn's love of comicbooks go . Gunn is not just saying this either, with the director frequently sharing fanart of Harley in particular to his Instagram stories.
Knowing this, it is safe to speculate that Harley Quinn is here for the long haul, and likely won't see her end in The Suicide Squad -- She's still a got bit more mileage in her yet.
Fans can hope to see Harley Quinn all the same, when The Suicide Squad releases on August 6, 2021.
