Star Wars Announces Major Showcase for Upcoming Disney+ Series

Following The Book of Boba Fett’s run in January and February, Star Wars is set for a massive year of expansion on Disney+ with a few upcoming projects. Ewan McGregor will kick this off with his return as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in his self-titled limited series in May, filling in the gaps between Episode III and Episode IV. This also comes before Diego Luna’s Andor and Season 3 of The Mandalorian, both of which remain under the radar.

Also on the docket for fans in the more immediate future is Star Wars Celebration, a three-day event in Southern California to celebrate the past, present, and future of the galaxy far, far away. With this being the first time since 2019 that the event is officially a go, anticipation is building quickly to see what creators and fans alike have in store for this gathering.

The 2022 event already has plenty of promotional material to build up hype, including posters featuring characters from Grogu to Darth Vader and news regarding a dozen key Star Wars actors making their presence felt.

Now, with less than two months until the celebration begins, Star Wars shared that it has even more exciting news up its sleeve.

Star Wars confirmed plans for "a must-see showcase" at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration, which will return to Anaheim, California from May 26-29, 2022.

On Thursday, May 26, Lucasfilm's top current filmmakers will take the stage along with some special guests to discuss upcoming live-action projects, specifically Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and The Mandalorian.

Disney+ Shines at 2022 Star Wars Event

The live-action side of Star Wars storytelling has no shortage of new material coming this year, especially considering it will begin streaming on Disney+ the same weekend that Star Wars celebration takes place. Even more exciting is that this event will bring more news and information about what fans can expect to see in the near future.

Since Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts on Disney+ the day after this panel, there should be some in-depth updates about what will come to the small screen just a few hours later. This could include a surprise visit from any creatives involved, possibly as big as director Deborah Chow or star Ewan McGregor, although it remains to be seen how the show will make its presence felt.

Andor and The Mandalorian should also get their own shine, particularly with how much mystery surrounds the production for both new entries. As Andor is rumored to release in August, this celebration could be the perfect opportunity to bring the first look at Diego Luna's return from 2016's Rogue One, and Mando is always a hot topic as the original Star Wars Disney+ entry.

Also on the docket for potential discussion are the female-centric The Acolyte and the still unannounced show centered on Star Wars' High Republic era. Since the panel comes on the first of a four-day weekend, announcing information on shows like this could open the floodgates regarding teases and news on largely under-the-radar projects like this.

All of this and more will come when Star Wars Celebration 2022 begins on May 26.
