The anticipation surrounding Obi-Wan Kenobi is high, especially after the confirmation that it will feature a stacked ensemble featuring the return of Star Wars veterans like Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) and the titular lead, Ewan McGregor's Jedi Master.
The series will be directed by The Mandalorian's Deborah Chow, and it has been confirmed to take place years after the tragic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Despite the confirmed place of the series in the Skywalker Saga timeline, plot details are still being kept under wraps.
The lightsaber-wielding pair will also be joined by a stellar cast that includes the likes of Sung Kang, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, and Kumail Nanjiani. Edgerton and Piesse will both make their triumphant returns as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, the pair who took care of a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine.
Production has already wrapped for Obi-Wan Kenobi, meaning that wrap gifts for the cast and crew have been distributed. Now, a special look at one of the wrap tokens has been revealed, and it features a familiar Star Wars Easter egg.
Tatooine Featured in New Kenobi Merch
Bonnie Piesse, who is set to reprise her Star Wars role as Aunt Beru in Obi-Wan Kenobi, unveiled a brand-new wrap gift given to her by the show's director, Deborah Chow.
The wrap gift shows the official logo of the series alongside a reference to Tatooine's Binary Sunset. The full image can be seen below:
Alongside the reveal, Piesse shared the following caption:
"When Deborah Chow sends you a wrap gift with some Obi-Wan swag! Counting my blessings!"
Tatooine Is Obi-Wan Kenobi's Major Location
In many ways, this wrap gift is a fitting tribute to Obi-Wan Kenobi's major location. It is also appropriate that Bonnie Piesse is the one who posted the official merchandise as the actress is playing Aunt Beru, a character closely tied to the planet.
At this stage, it remains to be seen if Ewan McGregor's Jedi master will forego his "exile" in Tatooine to explore other planets, but it's safe to say that a huge part of the narrative will be firmly set on the sand planet.
This could hint that fans will be able to witness Obi-Wan's transition to Ben Kenobi while also exploring his encounters with the Jawas and potentially Jabba the Hut. The presence of Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen could also mean that the series will also spend time telling the story of how Kenobi watched over a young Luke Skywalker.
Aside from Obi-Wan's adventures, the inclusion of Tatooine could also hint that Darth Vader will potentially return to the planet to personally lead the search for his former friend. This could create an opportunity for the show to explore how the Sith Lord will reflect on his previous time on Tatooine.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to premiere sometime on Disney+ in 2022.
