Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the highly-anticipated projects under the Star Wars banner, mainly because it will feature the return of Ewan McGregor's fan-favorite Jedi Master into the Skywalker Saga.

Directed by Deborah Chow, the upcoming Disney+ series is set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, and it will revolve around the adventures of Obi-Wan in Tatooine while protecting Luke Skywalker. This is the basic premise of the show when it was initially revealed, but it seems that the Jedi Master will not be solely confined in the sand-infused planet.

Lucasfilm confirmed that Hayden Christensen will make his Star Wars return in the series to bring Darth Vader back to life, and it appears that he will not be alone in his comeback. In the past months, rumors about Obi-Wan Kenobi started to emerge online, and a notable one revolves around the presence of Vader's Inquisitors

A key rumor unveiled that the Inquisitors will spell trouble toward Obi-Wan in “one episode,” while Fast 9 actor Sung Kang will reportedly play one of them in the form of Star Wars Rebels' the Fifth Brother. This was further cemented by the fact that Moses Ingram teased that she will play a lightsaber-wielding character in the series.

Despite the overwhelming odds, it seems that Obi-Wan will not be alone in this whole endeavor as evidenced by a new rumor.

LRM Online shared in a report that R2-D2 and C3PO will make an appearance in Obi-Wan Kenobi. The outlet pointed out that they are unsure how big of a role the pair of droids will have in the series.

MORE STAR WARS LEGENDS IN OBI-WAN KENOBI

R2-D2 and C3PO's return in Obi-Wan Kenobi is a welcome development for Star Wars fans.

It's worth pointing out that R2-D2 has the most canon appearances in different Star Wars media, with his latest coming from the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian. Meanwhile, C3-PO comes in at second place with 11 canon appearances.

Numbers aside, the appearance of the pair of droids is a fitting reminder of the success of the Skywalker Saga, and many would assume that this will be carried over to Obi-Wan Kenobi

On a plot level, not much is known on how R2 and 3PO will fit into the narrative of the series, but it's possible that they are closely tied to the appearance of another famous Skywalker Saga character. It was previously rumored that a young Leia Organa will show up in the series, and this could be where the droids will be involved.

This makes narrative sense since Revenge of the Sith showed that the two droids were mind-wiped at the tail-end of the film, and they were left to accompany Captain Raymus Antilles, a close ally of Senator Bail Organa. It's possible that Leia is being pursued by the Inquisitors, thus forcing Bail to seek assistance from Obi-Wan to protect the child from Vader's forces.

This would eventually lead to a mini-reunion between Obi-Wan and his trusted droids, but the sad part about it is the fact that they will not recognize the Jedi Master due to being mind-wiped. Despite that, many would agree that it would still be a heartfelt moment.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to stream on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
