The Skywalker Saga might've already wrapped its storyline on the big screen, but it's clear that the narrative is far from over. This is because of the ever-expanding Disney+ slate of the franchise, with shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett providing more stories to enrich the lore surrounding the space epic.
One of the projects that will contribute to this concept of world-building is Obi-Wan Kenobi. Directed by The Mandalorian's Deborah Chow, the series will see the return of Ewan McGregor as the famous Jedi Knight to fill in the blanks on what really happened between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
The exact plot details of Obi-Wan Kenobi are still being kept under wraps, but it was already confirmed that Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader. The inclusion of the prequel actor consequently revealed that a much-anticipated rematch will happen between the two former friends, thus making the series a must-see for any Star Wars fan.
Now, it looks like McGregor and Christensen will not be the only actors from the prequel trilogy joining the show.
AN ALL-STAR CAST FOR OBI-WAN KENOBI
Lucasfilm officially revealed the complete cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Alongside already-confirmed actors Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, the new members of the Disney+ series include Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, and Kumail Nanjiani.
Interestingly, Edgerton and Piesse portrayed Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru in the prequel trilogy, and this series will serve as the pair's return to the galaxy far, far, away.
The full list of casting additions can be seen below:
Lucasfilm also confirmed that production for the Disney+ series will begin this April.
A MASSIVE STAR WARS ENSEMBLE
As is, the cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi is stacked with a diverse group of A-level talent, and it will be interesting to see how all these amazing actors will fit in the narrative. Given that the series will mostly be set in Tatooine, the addition of Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru makes narrative sense, and this suggests that a young version of Luke Skywalker might be involved in some form.
In a way, Luke could be central to the show's plot, and Obi-Wan will definitely have his hands full to try and lure Darth Vader away from Tatooine. That being said, the massive ensemble of actors will likely play characters from other planets, thus making the Disney+ series a planet-hopping adventure where Obi-Wan is being pursued by the Sith Lord.
On the flip side, a good chunk of the announced cast members could be playing locals from Tatooine, and it could easily provide Kenobi with some trusted allies or enemies along the way. With production gearing up soon, it's possible that the arrival of set photos and videos could give viewers a general idea of some roles of the actors.
Whatever the case, this latest bit of information about the Ewan McGregor-led project will no doubt hype up fans everywhere.
