Star Wars Unveils New Blu-ray Collections For All 3 Trilogies

Star Wars' Skywalker Saga helped set the standard for major blockbuster film franchises, thanks to nine theatrical releases between 1977 and 2019. Although Lucasfilm and Disney are expanding into serialized storytelling on Disney+ with award-winning shows like The Mandalorian and future outings like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor, none of it would have been possible without the Skywalker Saga.

While there have been a few extended periods without a Star Wars movie on the big screen, the last few generations of moviegoers have experienced a journey into the galaxy far, far away every couple of years. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher helped kick things off with Episode IV: A New Hope nearly 45 years ago, and with George Lucas' story expanding mightily, Star Wars still remains a staple amongst Hollywood's biggest adventures.

Even with so much new content planned out for the next few years from Lucasfilm, the studio and fans alike take the time to celebrate the foundation on which Star Wars was built with the Skywalker Saga. This continues with new forms of physical media, with artwork paying tribute to the heroes and villains that made the franchise so successful for nearly half a century.

New Blu-Rays for Skywalker Saga

Amazon's French website listed three new collectible Blu-ray box sets for each trilogy from Lucasfilm's Star Wars Skywalker Saga. All three are available for pre-order for €49.99, and they will be shipped to customers starting on April 15, 2022.

The Prequel Trilogy that ran from 1999 to 2005 features a red hue against characters and scenes from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Darth Maul looms over the scenery in the background as the art shows scenes like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn's battle with Maul, Anakin Skywalker speeding through the desert, and Anakin's epic duel with Obi-Wan.

The Original Trilogy that premiered between 1977 and 1983 is colored with a bold blue and features iconic moments from A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. James Earl Jones' Darth Vader finds himself in the spotlight alongside the Death Star II, multiple Imperial fighters and walkers, Emperor Palpatine, and the heroic trio of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo.

The most recent Star Wars movies from 2015 through 2019, known as the Sequel Trilogy, boast art with a gold color scheme, with the set bringing The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker to Blu-ray discs. Adam Driver's Kylo Ren and his one-of-a-kind lightsaber make their presence felt amongst First Order flying vehicles and the Millennium Falcon, while Rey, Finn, and Poe stand tall amongst stars from the Original Trilogy.

Star Wars' History Coming in Full Force

The Skywalker Saga features some of the most beloved movies in pop culture history while also boasting entries that leave much to be desired by fans, all coming together to form one extended adventure that spans across decades in-universe and in real life. Regardless of what the reviews have said, this collection comes as another exciting piece of collectible merchandise for die-hard fans to get their hands on.

Each piece of art on the front of these Blu-Rays does a wonderful job of recognizing the most important characters and moments from each trilogy with bold colors and collage-style imagery. Pitting the battle between the light and dark sides of the Force against one another the way each box set does, fans get a unique look at the core story that built Star Wars into the mega-success it continues to be to this day.

Looking at all the new Star Wars material releasing on Disney+ and future movies like Rogue Squadron, it's currently unknown whether Lucasfilm will find a way back into the Skywalker Saga for new additions to this nine-movie saga. Regardless, this new set of physical media should be a hot-ticket item for anyone looking to relive Star Wars' glory days and support this historic franchise.
