Spider-Man: No Way Home is filled with surprises and significant moments, but many would agree that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's returns top the list. The Sony and Marvel Studios project is the third film in Tom Holland's MCU trilogy, and it features franchise mainstays Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Jon Favreau alongside previous Spider-Man villains played by Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, and Jamie Foxx.

In the months leading to the film's premiere, Maguire and Garfield's inclusion have long been part of the rumors directly tied to the project. Despite having mounting evidence about the pair's involvement, such as leaked set photos and soundtrack motifs, the cast and crew have vehemently denied their appearances.

Still, this didn't stop fans from discussing Maguire and Garfield's potential cameos online, thus boosting the hype for the movie. Now that the actors' return is official, a new interview has offered an update about the pair's Marvel future.

Spider-Man: No Way Home writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna sat down with Variety to tease their hopes for the future of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's respective web-slingers after the MCU threequel.

McKenna first admitted that he "would love to see more of their journey," confirming that a post-credits scene which would've teased Maguire and Garfield's Marvel cinematic future was considered:

“I would hope so! I would love to see more of their journey. We even talked about, ‘Oh, we could do a [post-credits] tag with this one! We could do a tag with that one!'”

Sommers jokingly chimed in by asking if they can do a TV show with the two of them:

“‘Can we do a TV show with the two of them traveling around in a van solving mysteries?'”

McKenna then squirmed a bit, realizing that they've gone too far with the jokes:

“Like, ‘No, you weren’t supposed to say that. We are doing Tobey and Andrew in a van going from town to town!”

Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield's Future (Explained)

The Marvel writers' latest comments clearly echo fan sentiments about the desire to see more of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men down the line.

It would've been interesting to see a post-credits tag that teased the fates of the two Marvel heroes, but it looks like further discussion behind the scenes might have pushed that back. It's unknown if Maguire and Garfield's return in No Way Home is a one-time thing, but the movie's record-breaking box office development could change things should that be the case.

In a way, No Way Home would've made the perfect send-off for Maguire and Garfield's characters, since they already resolved their issues with their respective villains. Still, seeing them return for another round of solo projects would be a welcome sight, ultimately leading to a proper goodbye for the characters.

No Way Home teased some of the fates of major characters like Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson, but a full-blown reveal in another solo project would've been a more interesting outcome. Meanwhile, Garfield's return in the much-talked-about The Amazing Spider-Man 3 should delight fans.

At this stage, anything is possible, especially after No Way Home's dominant run in the box office that has yet to be finished.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters worldwide.
