Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to make the theatrical rounds all across the world, slowly adding to its status as the biggest movie event of the last couple of years. Filled with unique Easter eggs flying under the radar and the more blatant references to past Spider-Man films through appearances by five villains and two Spider-Men, this movie is already making a major impact on the comic book movie community.
This threequel kicks off an exciting run of sequels for Marvel Studios in Phase 4, which will continue through 2022 with three follow-ups to past MCU outings from the Infinity Saga. Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange will move straight from No Way Home into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before Chris Hemsworth brings down the thunder in July's Thor: Love and Thunder.
At the moment, there are no signs pointing to specific plot details that will come to light in Thor's fourth solo film outside of Jane Foster becoming the Mighty Thor and the team taking on Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher. In surprising fashion, a small moment in No Way Home may have teased something fans can expect to see in next year's thunderous sequel.
Thor 4 Easter Egg in Spider-Man 3
A brief moment from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: No Way Home hinted at a potential plot point in 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder.
During one of the early news broadcasts about Peter Parker's identity reveal, as revealed by Reddit user u/KingEuronIIIGreyjoy, a news ticker banner at the bottom reads "Political turmoil in New Asgard as Z..." under the Spider-Man coverage.
Leadership Struggles in Love and Thunder?
Although this message had only a few seconds of screentime during the massive story put forth in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it could mean some major ramifications will come to light in the fourth solo Thor film.
The Asgardian God of Thunder was last seen leaving Earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Endgame after leaving Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie as the leader of New Asgard on Earth. This message hints that she may have to fight for her place as the ruler of her people after already living through the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
Although there's nothing definitive confirmed in regards to this message, looking at which characters are coming into play in Love and Thunder, the Asgardians and their leaders could be in for some big trouble.
Gorr the God Butcher Living Up to His Name?
Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher is set to make his mark as a new powerful villain in this cosmic Phase 4 outing, which likely means that he will be after Gods like Thor. Besides the MCU's long-standing Asgardian prince, one other name comes to mind with the letter "Z" coming up in the news broadcast.
In April 2021, Russell Crowe leaked that he was playing the classic Greek God Zeus, which could very well be one of many Gods that will make their presence felt in this thrilling new movie. With the Asgardians and Greeks already represented, Love and Thunder could tackle other cultures from people like the Egyptians, Mayans, and even other Olympians.
This movie could end up with some of these Gods surviving and finding their way to New Asgard before challenging Valkyrie for the throne, although there could be more reasons for the turmoil as well. No matter what happens, it appears that the fourth Thor movie will have plenty of story to tell as the God of Thunder makes his glorious return to the MCU.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters across most of the world. Thor: Love and Thunder will arrive in theaters on July 8, 2022.
