Sony Pictures’ Morbius is finally coming back into the spotlight after seemingly countless delays forced the film into an early 2022 release within the Spider-Man Universe. Although much of the attention right now is on the MCU’s upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home and the highly-awaited animated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Morbius will add a dark new story into the ever-growing Spidey narrative for Sony.

Now coming nearly two full years after its originally-planned release date, Morbius has had to put even more effort into its promotional tour than expected to make sure fans know it’s still on the way. Thankfully, it should have plenty of ways to make its return to prominence thanks to a powerful leading character and potential ties with the MCU in the future.

Recently, Sony delivered a new clip from Morbius to show just how formidable Jared Leto’s character becomes upon first transforming into the Living Vampire. Shortly after, Leto offered his own words regarding the movie’s upcoming debut, even teasing something that could help boost excitement among MCU fans.

During Sony Pictures' presentation at the CCXP Comic-Con in Brazil, via Twitter user @sebbazz, Morbius star Jared Leto took a look back at the trailer for Sony and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While speaking about his own solo movie, Leto mentioned that the Living Vampire is now "part of a much larger universe" before specifically revealing that Spider-Man: No Way Home's latest teaser, which blew open the Marvel Multiverse, allows for "all kinds of opportunities to meet." The actor then explicitly teased the Sinister Six, mentioning that "sinister intents" could be fully brought to life through multiple universe escapades.

"In the film version of Morbius that we’re bringing to you now, he’s also a part of a much larger universe. If you’ve seen the last Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, you know the Multiverse has officially opened, and there’s all kinds of opportunities for villains to meet up, thrive, and maybe even nurture their more sinister intents. That’s all I’m gonna say for right now."

Leto Teasing an Eventual MCU/Morbius Crossover?

It's become abundantly clear that Spider-Man: No Way Home will come as a game changer for the superhero movie genre, especially with it being the first MCU movie to truly introduce the Multiverse. Due to this, questions are consistently being asked about the potential of Sony's Spider-Man Universe officially joining the Marvel Studios narrative, especially since teases for it are already out there.

The first trailer for Morbius already showed the return of Michael Keaton's Vulture, which can't be seen as a coincidence after his first run as the villainous Adrian Toomes in Spider-Man: Homecoming. On top of that, 2021's Venom: Let There Be Carnage officially threw Tom Hardy's hero into the MCU in its mid-credits scene as he watched the Daily Bugle report revealing Tom Holland's Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

While neither Marvel or Sony will officially confirm this connection until it's unavoidable, the indications of a merger happening are only increasing with each new release.

Of course, Spider-Man: No Way Home is already packed to the gills with material and characters, meaning that Leto's Morbius may not come in during this particular movie, given that it debuts before his own solo outing. However, with signs of some kind of Sinister Six being nearly inevitable at this point, there's no way to ignore that the two stories could mesh together sooner rather than later.

Morbius is set to debut in theaters on January 28, 2022. Spider-Man: No Way Home will make its worldwide debut on December 17, 2021.
