Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures continue to make their mark on the entertainment industry thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home's record-breaking theatrical run. Coming up on a full month since the threequel debuted worldwide, the film is now encroaching on the top five box office returns of all time while being one of the best-reviewed films in recent memory.
Now that the MCU’s slate of projects for 2021 is over after the Spider-Man threequel, the team is prepping for potentially a dozen new entries in 2022 as it looks to the distant future as well. With three theatrical movies and potentially five or six Disney+ shows debuting this year alone, there are plenty of new actors set to join the Marvel Studios narrative, although plenty of other roles are still up for grabs.
At this point, the swirling of rumors about the next big-time Hollywood actors being in line for a place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe have become a constant. The latest rumblings suggest that Marvel CCO has his eye on none other than Jaden Smith...
Jaden Smith Responds to Marvel Rumors
Actor Jaden Smith took to Twitter in reaction to rumors that he's in talks with Marvel Studios for a potential MCU role.
In response to these potential talks, Smith shared an image of himself donning the Spider-Man mask from Tobey Maguire's solo movies along with the caption "Wya I’m Tryna Swing By."
Jaden Smith Wanting in on the MCU's Spider-Verse?
With actors still needed for plenty of big-time roles in Marvel projects like Jon Watts’ Fantastic Four and Mahershala Ali’s Blade, Marvel Studios’ casting department is going to be working overtime to ensure that the right actors are chosen. As rumors surrounding Jaden Smith come to the forefront, it’s clear that the young star wouldn’t mind dipping his toes into the MCU’s ever-expanding future.
Smith certainly has an impressive resume despite still being only 23 years old, first becoming famous as a child in The Pursuit of Happyness more than a decade ago. He's also notably the son of entertainment icon Will Smith, who's involved with the DC side of superhero movies thanks to his role as Deadshot in 2016's Suicide Squad.
While Smith dons a Spider-Man mask specifically in the photo he posted on social media, there are plenty of opportunities for him to take on a Marvel role outside the continuing Spider-verse. Whether he wants to play the MCU's Miles Morales or simply wants to be considered for any open role is a mystery, but there's no denying that he has Marvel on his mind as the franchise continues to grow.
Looking at Marvel's timeframe for casting, it may be some time until fans officially hear which role Smith may be in line for in a future movie or TV show. But considering how busy the team behind the MCU is at any given time with casting and development, his name on the radar can't be easily dismissed.
For Spider-Man's MCU tenure, Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters, while the untitled Spider-Man 4 is in the early stages of development.
