As 2021 begins winding down to its final months, MCU fans grow more anxious by the day about the year’s final Phase 4 releases. More than anything else, though, fans are being driven to an almost ravenous stage over the status of a second trailer for a certain web-slinging threequel set to arrive in December.
In simple terms, Spider-Man: No Way Home is living up to its billing as a special solo outing, even comparing it to the usual MCU standards.
The long-awaited first trailer that debuted in August gave fans just the right combination of confirmed story details and mysterious teases for what's coming in Tom Holland's third Spidey movie. Some of this included irrefutable proof of Alfred Molina's Doctor Octavius coming into the MCU, although the footage also gave small clues for other powerful villains like Electro and Sandman.
While almost nothing outside of Octavius is confirmed for No Way Home, rumors have run rampant about more players from past Spider-Man outings playing some kind of role in the plot.
In an exciting fashion, a new leak has potentially given some details on exactly how some of these characters will look.
Leaked Details on Spideys & Goblin in No Way Home
A post by the moderator team on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, which was later verified by @EmberOnMain to The Direct, shared details about costumes that will appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Specifically, the leak teased not only costumes for Tom Holland's leading hero but for Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and both of the Spider-Man costumes for Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
The leak revealed that Tobey Maguire's suit will look almost identical to how it appeared in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. The report noted that the costume, as featured in a leaked image from the No Way Home production, looks slightly more vibrant than its appearance in the 2000s franchise, yet that the lighting of the photo could be to blame for this saturation difference.
As for Andrew Garfield's Spidey, his suit will be reminiscent of the one from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It appeared to match the costume Garfield wore in the leaked set video from late August.
Dafoe's Green Goblin suit will also look nearly identical to its Spider-Man counterpart, although it will feature a few notable additions that add some complexity to the villainous look.
Included in those additions will be a comic-accurate shoulder strap and belt (complete with a bomb tag), gold accessories on the legs, and other fabrics like a purple cloth wrapped around the arm. Some of the suit's damaged sections will be filled in with metallic-looking fill-ins, although it's nearly 100% green in coloring.
The outfit is undoubtedly the same suit from the original 2002 movie, but instead of the classic mask, Dafoe will sport black goggles similar to Otto Octavius' in Spider-Man 2. The costume will also feature some kind of purple hood or scarf at some point in the film.
Another part of the leak teased an early version of Tom Holland's black and gold suit, which also boasts hints of red. It was described as a physical suit with a cell phone duct-taped to the chest, although it's unclear why.
More Hints Toward Major Spider-Man Players
The cast list for Spider-Man: No Way Home is one that's seemed to find another surprising addition by the day, from Jaime Foxx's Electro all the way to Maguire and Garfield's Peter Parkers. Leaks like this one only serve to push the hype surrounding this movie to new levels of insanity less than two months before its debut.
An interesting point to note from this leak is that it's from the same subreddit mod team that hinted at Vincent D'Onofrio reprising his role as Kingpin in Hawkeye on Disney+. Whether that comes to fruition is still a mystery, although with D'Onofrio's hints potentially indicating that the leak is true, the chances of it being real make for something especially thrilling.
Dafoe's Green Goblin is about as close to possible to being confirmed for a comeback in this movie with the first trailer showing a pumpkin bomb before a sinister "Be careful what you wish for, Parker." Depending on which moment he's taken from, similar to the way Molina described his journey into the MCU, Norman Osborn could be in for quite an interesting revival nearly two decades after his debut.
As for the Spidey suits, this only seems to further indicate that there could be some true emotional bonding moments between the wall-crawling trifecta, regardless of how much screen time they share together. Marvel and Sony have been vigilant in keeping as many of the movie's secrets as possible, although with everything that's already known, it's undeniable that this will be a Spidey movie for the ages.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will arrive in theaters on December 17, 2021.
