After four more releases in 2021 and more than a dozen in 2022, Marvel Studios will kick off 2023 with a thrilling new adventure in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Bringing back nearly the entire cast from the first two Ant-Man outings, this threequel will take the smallest Avenger’s story to new levels of insanity via the Quantum Realm. Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang will have more super-powered backup in Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang/Stature as he and the Wasp face off against Jonathan Majors’ Kang The Conqueror.
With filming currently in its earliest stages, fans are looking forward to seeing just how Marvel Studios will explore the Quantum Realm in more depth than ever before, especially from a visual standpoint. To help lead that aspect of the movie, Marvel Studios appears to be going back to someone who’s helped deliver thrilling photography to the MCU, and recently at that.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Gains Familiar Cinematographer
Arri Crew, via Will Mavity, reported that Marvel Studios has hired Bill Pope as the cinematographer for 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Pope held the same position for Marvel on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which was recently released in theaters. He also led photography on Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 in 2004 and Spider-Man 3 in 2007.
Bill Pope Ready For More MCU On Ant-Man 3
Bill Pope has made a name for himself in cinematography - particularly with action movies - going back as far as The Matrix in 1999. He moved on to find great success in the superhero genre, with his work on Shang-Chi seeing praise from every angle as he captured the action and mystical creatures that pushed the plot forward.
For all that came in Simu Liu’s debut outing, Pope will have quite the challenge ahead of him with Paul Rudd’s third solo movie in 2023.
Even with no plot details known, it seems clear that the Quantum Realm will play a key role in the story along with multiple heroes utilizing their shrinking and enlarging powers. Couple that with Kang The Conqueror’s rise to power and Marvel has a movie that should be something remarkable visually.
The studio appears to have full faith in Pope after the most recent MCU release, and he looks to be ready to take on one of his biggest challenges to date over the next couple of years.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently filming and will release in theaters on February 17, 2023.
